Guest guest
OK I need help:) I'm going mad. My left ear is ringing like a symphony orchestra. it's been going for 3 days straight and i'm going completely nuts. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS? I would be HUGELY grateful if you do. I eat fairly well (NT foods and plenty kombucha etc). I had a few stressful days with work and uni last week and my ear went awol. my acupuncturist has said it has something to do with kidney health (?) but other than that no one has had any suggestions. I ear candled the other night but that was only minor improvement. WOULD LOVE any feedback. Arabella (drop-in from Australia).
Guest guest
Arabella, Tinnitus can be caused by a deficiency of B vitamins. You might try a complex of 50mg for most of the B vits- maybe more for thiamin, niacin and B12. It could also be a zinc deficiency. Taking a combination of zinc and niacin (increases circulation to the inner ear-gingko does this too) can sometimes be a cure, especially if the onset is recent. Magnesium deficiency could also be the problem. Supplement or soak in a tub of epsom salts. It would be helpful to see a kinesiologist for muscle-testing to determine what and how much of these things. Caffeine, salt, sugar and alcohol are implicated in tinnitus-avoid these things and it may resolve. If tinnitus persists, you should be evaluated for an underlying cause (which is only about 1% of cases). You can also try overriding the sound by listening to music with earphones set on low until it improves. (So you don't go crazy!) Good Luck! Kathy R.N. Guest guest
Arabella wrote asking about tinnitis. I just read an article in the current TC Naturally.com magazine re: ginkgo biloba (p. 20-21). It states that " ginkgo leaf extract has been used to treat a variety of ailments and conditions, including asthma, bronchitis, fatigue and tinnitus (ringing or roaring sounds in the ears), Alzheimer's disease, dementia, and multiple schlerosis. Ginkgo leaves are believed to contain compounds that thin the blood and help to improve muscle tone in the walls of blood vessels, which in turn enhances blood flow. " You can pick up a copy of Twin Cities Naturally magazine in any of the local food coops, if interested. Guest guest
Just an update on my LEFT EAR which has been competing with Beethoven's orchestra this week. The tinnitus turned into a minor ear infection which became painful/mild agony. I was DESPERATE for something (anything) so I held my nose tightly and downed a super large tablespoon of cod liver oil then took the morning off work. I haven't had this stuff in ages (i'll be honest, it makes me feel like i want to throw up. that's why i held my nose - it meant i didn't taste it!!). Well, within half an hour the pain had significantly subsided. i've repeated the procedure today and yesterday, and it's resolved to a mild tingle. I'd love it to disapear completely and will see what happens. YES. I know it could be placebo, it could be really any other factor, but i feel it was the cod liver oil. funny. i've been harping to people to take this stuff for years. i personally could not stand the taste (it really did make me want to throw up) so i always avoided it. Well, that act of desperation has made me love the stuff. i'm ALL for it now. THANKYOU to everyone for their help and suggestions this week. I really really appreciate it. YES. Coffee, tea, sugar (the 3 evils i was taking in the 2 days leading up to the infection) definately contributed/caused the problem. THE CURE. I'm not fully sure. but i think cod liver oil definately helped. As did total abstinence from coffee, sugar, tea during the recovery. Hooray for cod liver oil....!
