Dear ,

I hope Abbey is better soon. We had just about the same experience at the

beginning of October with . He woke up one Sunday morning, ate

breakfast and about an hour later began vomiting. About 3:00 p.m., he stated

in with the diarrhea. It had that awful smell of C-Diff, so my husband

carried to the car and off we went to the Doctor's office. They

directly admitted him to the hospital. His WBC was 15.8, bands were 23 and

he was severely dehydrated. He stayed for 4 days and received IV Rochephin

and Gent. He came home on Augmentin. They weren't ever able to tell me the

source of the infection. It was very strange.

Sorry I have been silent for so long. Things have been a little hectic here.

had his tonsils out in September. He had a port placed about 3 weeks

ago. has developed scoliosis and his bone age is a year behind his

chronological age. We saw the immunologist yesterday and they want both the

boys off of all steroids. This will be the trick if it works. Jake has some

severe reactions to the IVIG. They want us to try giving IV Benadryl every

12 hours for 48 hours. has a treatment on Friday, so we will see.

I am teaching both boys at home this year. It became very obvious to me that

Jake was not getting an education. He is a whole year behind in English. I

also started a new job. Whew.......Life is so crazy sometime. The boys have

been alot healthier since I am keeping Jake home. He is happier and can

actually enjoy being a kid in the fall and winter months. He is going to be

in a production of Romeo and t. He is playing Lord Montague. We have

rolaty in the house now........Hello to all the new comers. I have been

reading and trying to keep up.......

Well, here's wishing all is well in your homes today....Thanks for

your ever insightful updates pertaining to the latest science and medicine

has to offer us. Any thoughts on how we can get Jake's spine going in the

right direction again would be welcome. Any ideas about meds to help with

the side affects would be welcome as well. I think we have tried about

everything.

Sue ,

Good to hear from you again.....Congrats on homeschooling....It really does

work well. Pat yourself on the back, it's a big selfless step to take. If

you need help w/materials, I have found some wonderful things. After Zach

being out the last 2 yrs, he jumped back in no problem and is above level.

Good luck to the boys, hopefully keeping them home will work out for them.

Sue:

re:scoliosis---I have scoliosis as a results of radiation to my abdoman

(cancer of the kidney, also called Wilm's tumor). Find a good chiropractor

who will adjust your son and will also teach you stretching and muscle

building exercises to pull the spine back in line. It won't be an easy task,

but a good dr can help make it fun. Unfortunately, by the time my scoliosis

was found, it was too late to make major improvements, so now I work on

maintaining what I have and not letting it progress with age.

Good Luck.
