Guest guest
I hope this is not TMI for yall, but I take Seroquel too, and it knocks me for a loop. I can only take it at night because I just cannot function if I took it during the day. My doc originally had me take 3 pills, but it was way too much. I cut it back to one. The other thing it does is make me have a voracious insatiable appetite. You want to stuff yourself beyond full and I’ve not found anything to help that. I just do my best to sllep until sleep overtakes me. I’m guessing he only gets to eat when they tell him and I cannot imagine what that does to his psyche. My doc says it is a great anti depressant, so I am trusting him on that one, but I do wish there was an alternative. , Mom to Phoebe 3 Ds and cystic fibrosis, and Nolan 6, speech delay Proud wife to Steve, the love of my life... phoebe updates here “A mind is a fire to be kindled, not a vessel to be filled.” —Plutarch (46-137), historian, biographer, essayist From: DownSyndromeInfoExchange [mailto:DownSyndromeInfoExchange ] On Behalf Of melissa hartley Sent: Thursday, September 11, 2008 4:49 PM To: DownSyndromeInfoExchange Subject: RE: [DownSyndromeInfoExchange] My Heart Is Broken...News About . Thanks Kathy..I'll have to check this link out about Celiac disease. has been taking various meds over the years. I was so out of it yesterday listening to the dr. but here are some of the meds he is taking..Depakote, Seroquel(may phase this one out), Levothyroxin for Hypothyroidism, Gemfibrozil (Generic Lopid I believe) for high triglycerides..I think the anti-depressant-Zyprexa..he may substitute Geodon for the Seroquel..Risperdal..not sure if he is gonna continue this one..he was also introducing Melatonin as of yesterday to help him sleep better. I am sure that I have forgotten a few but when I talk to the dr. again..I need to write a list of them and dosages. I wish he didn't have to take anything but I know his symptoms need to be under control, too. Oh, he also took Ritalin when he was ages 11 through 17. They are doing some lab work on him today & will let me know if he has anything going on health-wise...of course, the Depakote can have ill effects on his liver so his blood level will be monitored every 3 months--I think that is what he said. My mind is just blank..I am kinda in a daze today : / I will keep u posted on everything..thanks for being a good friend to me. * in western Missouri* From: Kathy Ratkiewicz Subject: RE: [DownSyndromeInfoExchange] My Heart Is Broken...News About . To: DownSyndromeInfoExchange Date: Thursday, September 11, 2008, 1:28 PM - I am so sorry to hear this. My BIL, who has Ds, also had some severe psych problems about 8 yrs ago…turned out he was hypothyroid, and it was making him have paranoid delusions. The docs put him on Risperdal, which turned him into pretty much a zombie. Then they added Welbutrin, which made things even worse. Once we got him off the meds and got his thyroid meds adjusted, he was much better, but improved a great deal more when he started on Zoloft. The docs also thought that he might have early onset AD, so he was started on Exelon. That has since been replaced with Reminyl. In retrospect, I think that he was misdiagnosed with AD, because if he really had it, he would have been in the latter stages by now…instead, he is functioning better than he ever has.He is doing very well now..working in a sheltered workshop, living in a group home, active in the community. I think that sometimes docs don’t dig deep enough to find the real cause for the symptoms of dementia..even in someone with Ds, 23 is pretty young. Oh!!..just remembered something else..sometimes celiac disease can ‘present’ as a psych disorder ... http://www.ncbi. nlm.nih.gov/ pubmed/12422480? dopt=Abstract
