Guest guest
Becky, I think you should find a new doctor for one (my opinion). In the meantime I would tell the doctor, I want x-rays or MRI to find out what is wrong with my back. The dizziness and nausea could be caused from the Zanaflex. I had that at times when I took Zanaflex. You have to look out for you, you sometimes have to say enough is enough, what he is doing is not enough. Do the tests doc or give me a referral for someone who will!! Be outspoken and demanding for your own safety. If he won't do the tests tell him to refer you to an orthopedic doctor. They will do the tests. Hope this helps!! Stella BeckyDoodles wrote: > > > I have not posted in a while. I am trying to get my doctor to > understand what > I am going through. You are feeling desparate due to the pain which is interfering with everything you need to do or want to do. It is the way many of us on this list feel. I wish I could give you an answer that would truly help you. I can't. I haven't found one for myself yet. We can however share with you our own experiences. Discuss the matter with your doctor. Write him/her a letter if you have to. Ask for further testing and xrays or MRI. It is possible that something would be found that could be treated. It is also possible that nothing will be found. That is what has happened in my own case as far as xrays and scans go. This is not to say that you don't have something real. Many autoimmune conditions and diseases will not show up on xrays and scans. Nor will they show up on most laboratory testing. However, your history of symptoms over a long period of time can form the basis for a diagnosis. You did not say what might be wrong with you. If you have a diagnosis you may want to spend some time on line researching your condition and its treatment. We have many resources availvable in our group pages at yahoo. Let your doctor know that the pain medications aren't helping. It is possible that you may need more powerful medications. If your doctor is unwilling to prescribe stronger pain medications, ask for a referral to a pain clinic and/or to physical therapy. My own quest for assistance with pain management took some thirty years. I'm 53. I only began taking pain relievers stronger than Motrin about 4 years ago. That medication was not strong enough and not prescribed often enough. I began working with a pain clinic doctor 3 years ago. We maximized the less powerful medications like Darvon, Ultram, Flexeril, before he moved me to stronger medications a year ago. The goal of pain management is not to eliminate the pain, but to reduce it to a level at which you can function more easily. Physical therapy and/or regular exercise are part of the self-discipline necessary to make a pain mangement plan work for you. Making other adjustments in your life, as well as involving family members in those necessary adjustments are both required. Ray
