Guest guest
Can anyone share with me their experiences with Edmark? Also does anyone have version 1 that they are done with and might like to sell? I also want to thank everyone for your responses on my starting over. They were very helpful. I'm sick today so I am not able to respond to each individually but I really appreciate your support. Penny
Guest guest
Hi, I had an IEP meeting for my son (10 yo) 4th grade two weeks ago. I was informed the school has decided to start using the Edmark reading program with him. I actually got to see the Edmark reading book that have started to use with my son. The book they showed me was the orange one. Sorry not sure what level. How ever I do know that my son is currently reading between kindergarten and first grade he is reading between the two. They tested my son to see where he to place him the Edmark program. From the book itself I would think it is somewhere in the late kindergarten early first grade level. Each story had a sentence or two of basic words on each page. My son just started this program so I can not say much about it. But the school did listen to my complaints and concerns due to the fact I kept mentioning to the team that is my son learned onlt one academic thing this year it would be that he can read. I had been on the schools case for a long time about the fact that i wanted my son to learn to read not just learn sight words.I finally got them to listen. They came up with a new reading program. I hope this program helps my son to learn to read. From: Maureen <mosense@...> Subject: [ ] Edmark Reading Date: Monday, November 17, 2008, 7:00 AM My daughters school scheduled an IEP meeting for last week. I had no idea why(we just had her annual in April) till her teacher emailed me to say she had requested the changes. She informed me that she was changing her reading program to learning the alphabet and sounds of each and every letter to the Edmark Program which seems to be reading the whole word and learning it all at once. She also has a DS girl in her class. I saw her mom in the hallway and she said they're changing it for both of them. She told me later- I told that teacher she was reading whole words before she started in that class (she has two older sisters and they're in 2nd grade). We got some flash cards home to start practicing with. She could " read " the word I and a!! The rest....we'll see how it goes!! She never said this is a good program for Apraxia children---but they're trying this new approach and thought some others might like to know. We also saw her Physiatrist last week- who does her braces- who told us its one of the best IEP's she's seen from a school district and if she's getting everything listed on the IEP- she's got it pretty good. I was worried that I was not doing enough services outside of school like so many seem to do. She gets Individual speech 4x a week. Here's a little of an explanation of Edmark Reading Program. • Increase word recognition and comprehension • Develop vocabulary • Build self-confidence • Monitor progress The Edmark Reading Program teaches basic reading skills to the most struggling readers and non-readers. Through short instructional steps, students are taught recognition and comprehension of words. Carefully planned introduction of words and evolution of sentence structure promote language development. The content is appropriate for students of all ages. Student progress is automatically tracked, and single-switch scanning is supported. Edmark Reading Program Level 1 – Level 1 teaches 150 words from the Dolch Word List and basal readers as well as " -s, " " -ed " and " -ing " endings, capitalization and punctuation. Students learn to recognize sight words, word meanings and word context. Level 1 includes 227 lessons and 30 stories.

Guest guest
At my insistence we had our school start with the Edmark Reading program in first grade (he is now in fourth). He had been showing an interest in reading but was not at the point where he could even begin to sound anything out. Edmark really worked well for him in that it got him reading which gave him the confidence that he would be able to read. He still uses some elements of the Edmark program (we also make them part of his spelling words) but has moved on to more phonics based program. Phonics is very slow for him but again Edmark gave him the confidence that he can read. He can be inconsistent but can now read at an early 2nd grade level (he just turned 10 and is in 4th grade). Only caveat with Edmark is you have to make sure that you move on to other programs once the student starts to master it since they must to learn how to read non-Edmark words to become a true reader. **************Get the Moviefone Toolbar.
