You would need to ask the patient what was his reason for taking the Medicare Replacement Plan. Did he get some benefit he did not have. One of our patients took the plan for dental. I would think he would have been better off with Medicare and QMB as he could go anywhere and get whatever he needed done with no copayments and/or dedutibles. Beverly A. Amy,

I had a patient who was told his Advantage plan would be much better in terms of

following him etc. I advised him to switch back to his traditional Medicare and

Medicaid and it worked out great for him. I found no benefit to him under those

circumstances.

Here is my scenario:

Patient has an AARP Medicare Replacement Plan through Secure Horizons. In

addition, Patient also has Medicaid QMB.

The question is

Why would the patient need a replacement plan if he already has QMB which is

coverage for Medicare deductible & coinsurance liabilities for Medicare claims?

Did the patient need a replacement plan if he already has the QMB?

Should I advise him to switch back to his Traditional Medicare A & B?

Any suggestions? By the way, I am in the state of Texas.

Thanks!
