Re: PPCD in Summer

mine was in 1/2 day ppcd program in spring isd in 2004. when summer was

approaching i was told he didn't qualify for ppcd summer program since he hadn't

shown signs of mastering and wasn't in jeopardy of regressing.

then in 2006, he was in ppcd program in cy-fair isd. he went to ppcd summer

program, both sessions, full day. it was held in a different school from his

regular year school and i guess technically the summer session was titled esy

but it was ppcd, they did continue (and thanks to good teacher and paras

actually pushed past) the iep in place for 06/07.

i find it hard to believe that ppcd summer school/esy would be a district

thing. i didn't like the argument from spring that no signs of mastering = no

jeopardy of regressing (especially when it was a lie) but we moved on.

Just called our home campus, and was told this was not available in

Plano. When I responded that I was told that PPCD summer school was

available by the president of ASCC, they referred me to the summer

school hotline at . When I selected the special ed

prompt, it was only a 3 week remedial Math program for children 6th-

8th grade and families must pay for it. They sure make it hsrd for

parents to have a clue what is availsble for their child.

Can you please look into this for me? My two year old will be three

in May.

Thanks.

Sadly, even basic program components like ESY availability vary from

district to district. Just as full day PPCD is standard in Dallas,

you can only beg, borrow and steal for a full day PPCD in Plano

which is strictly designed as a half-day program. To attend morning

and afternoon would involve a total repetition of the morning

program, being " babysat " in their most restrictive of all classrooms

between the sessions during lunchtime, and I don't know anyone who

has actually been granted a full day, but there may be some out

there. I'm sure Nagla probably knows someone.

There are absolutely no consistencies throughout the state (except

ESL program that run year round), and when children with autism are

concerned and year round intensive programming is universally

recommended by peer-reviewed research as critical for young

children, it hardly makes sense. Hard to believe - maybe. Hard to

accept - defintely.
