[5] Keynote Speaker, Iwata Don't miss BAAM's special keynote speaker for 2004, Iwata. Iwata is internationally known for his expertise in the functional analysis of behavior and the treatment of severe developmental disabilities. His keynote address is entitled: " What Descriptive Approaches to Behavioral Assessment Don't Tell Us About Behavioral Function " Dr. Iwata will also present a special 3-hour workshop entitled: " Assessment and Treatment of Severe Problem Behavior " Workshop Abstract: The functional analysis approach to assessment and treatment has been Regarded as one of the most significant advances in behavior analysis in the past 20 years. Procedures derived from this method are considered the standard in the field in both research and clinical practice and have been mandated in federal law (IDEA). This workshop will describe the underlying assumptions of functional analysis methodology, summarize the most commonly used assessment procedures, and present an intervention model based on assessment results. A series of case studies will be used to illustrate the way in which assessment outcomes influence treatment selection. Emphasis will be placed on the translation of research findings into application, with ample use of case studies. We anticipate that this workshop will cost $40 (plus Convention Registration).
