Guest guest
Is there a name yet for all these behavioral modification-type techniques? Maybe people are using the acronym ABA, like people use the term Xerox. Xerox was the first company and then everyone starting calling copying, xeroxing. But its not so at all. So if there is no term classifying all these techniques/studies or there is one but most people don't know it, they will probably think ABA is synonymous with behavioral modification-type treatments. Heidi N " This article makes the common mistake of calling ABA Lovaas therapy. ABA is NOT Lovaas therapy. Applied Behavior Analysis is the field Of studying the principals of behavior-not the techniques that One man used with a small group of children. I can't believe there is still such a pervasive misunderstanding about What ABA is. Unbelievable " **************Start the year off right. Guest guest
You analogy of the Xerox made me smile. In my experience, most of the time when people use the term ABA, they think of Discrete Training Trials (DTT) on the table with some edibles as reinforces. I'm not a really big fan of ABA. Did you do Son-Rise? We did when was much younger. Back then, the two main things were Lovaas and Son-Rise and I saw someone doing Lovaas and I just couldn't bring myself to do it; it seemed so negative. The ABA done today is definitely NOT Lovaas. There was another child in our district who also did Son-Rise and the district always said that our kids didn't have the behavior problems other kids seemed to have. 's social skills were so much higher than his other skills because of it. I haven't met many people who have done Son-Rise. I eventually incorporated the philosophies of Son-Rise with ABA and found that worked the best for him. There is actually some long-time instructors from Son-Rise who felt the same way and went and started their own program doing the exact same thing. Growing Minds in Florida. One of the people who worked with when we were up at our intensive program for Son-Rise went with them, so it was great that she already knew us, etc. My email is _HildaBowen@..._ (mailto:HildaBowen@...) if you want to talk about it off list.
