Guest guest
I woke up Sunday morning and said " Honey, what do you think about going to church today. " We've been married for almost 9 years and haven't been to church that many times. My husband was sent to a baptist school as a child and is really turned off to religion due to his experiences there. Anyway, we got to church have a nice experience- my husband even says he " enjoyed " going. As we are leaving I run into this woman I know from preschool last year, she also has a child in my sons class this year and she says hello and looks at Sophia and says " she's so pretty. No, she really is pretty! " I said " yes, I call her my beautiful girl. " Did she not expect her to be pretty? Did she think she was supposed to be and ugly child? Then she proceeded to tell me the only story she has relating to someone with DS. She has told me this very story before. She also told me at the beggining of school this year " you may not be happy about it now, but they are so sweet. " What? Who, aliens? girls? people with blue eyes? I've never said anything back to her. I don't plan to. I have been in her shoes before, you want to say just the right thing and you stick your foot in your mouth, but REALLY. What are people thinking sometimes. I would prefer for her to just say " hey, how are you guys today. " I just needed the chance to vent. We haven't had too many interactions like this with people, yet. Sophia is only 9 months old so I'm sure we have many more coming. I guess it's just like when my twins were born, everybody who saw us had to stop us and as if they were natural or if we took drugs. Thanks for listening! Ruby mom to BEAUTIFUL baby Sophia, really
