Anyone¢s kid have a history of this? A friend¢s

8 yr old daughter (w/Ds) has had petechiae off and on for a few months.

Apparently, her therapists saw some today and became alarmed about it, so the

mom took her to the doc for blood tests(she had blood tests a few months ago,

but they were fine) Today¢s tests were fine as well. Any ideas about what could be causing this? She is not on

any meds. Thanks KathyR

Phoebe has always had mottled skin. Not exactly petechia, but I

was told it was because of her hypotonia. Her doctor said the blood vessels

also have smooth muscles in them that are floppy causing this.

Freddie used to get it when he was little. We didn't have a diagnoses or a name for it. It occurred anytime he had a blood draw, was restrained for any medical reason, or if he cried very hard. He would get it all over his back and face. For Freddie it was broken blood vessels gone wild. It disappeared as he grew up. I can't remember the last time we saw it on him. I have seen it on myself also. Once again no diagnoses. A little disturbing to see on a baby face. Mothers used to approach me all the time when Freddie had it. I was sure they thought I beat my child.

It nothing more then small blood blisters caused by the tiny capillaries in the skin to burst. Kids with low tone also have low tone in the walls of the veins and capillaries, so any pressure, bump, grab them and hold them, and you get petechiae. would get it just horribly whenever we did blood draws- would have ring around what ever limb we held. It has improved vastly along with her tone. Our Ped told me this btw.She also had with the LS. So badly that if formed a solid blood blister all around her genital/anal area. I was told the smooth muscles that line the vessels are also affected,

and that causes the poor circulation which caused Phoebe’s mottled skin.

But I only posted that saying it explained her mottled skin, not petechiae.

Sorry if I was unclear.

Virus. Fair Skin.

I had ITP ( viral they guess) as a 4 yr old. And my Oldest Daughter got the petechiae rash twice.. they told me a virus.

If the platelets are OK.. then all should be well.

I had the spinal tap etc cause they thought I had leukemia cause my white count was none existent.

I occasionally get them if I take aspirin. I am also VERY fair skinned.

is too.. and when ever they draw blood she gets them where they unrequited her.

It is a first sign of Leukemia...when was the last screening? Might want to get a simple blood test to rule it out.
