Guest guest
Thanks for stopping back by for your order today Jodi! We did have a temporary staff-less glitch for a couple of hours today. However, something REALLY BIG happened during that time, and it affects us all..... I had been invited to a very interesting meeting today with MAYOR R.T. RYBAK and staff! Turns out the Mayor, and in particular his wife MEGAN O'HARA are starting a new movement in the Twin Cities called HOMEGROWN MINNEAPOLIS~ We are blessed with a mayor and first family that have read Omnivore's Dilemma! They shop at the coop, at the farmers markets and eat in restaurants that serve local food! This Kick Off meeting today (where I was over the lunch hour) was the beginning of one of the most exciting projects that has ever hit the city! Can you imagine having city support for everything we are doing here? Just about everyone who is anyone in the local food movement was at the meeting today, as well as a full complement of health, food and regulatory people from the city offices. The mayor has declared that he wants healthy, local, sustainable food to be available to every citizen of Minneapolis. His office wants to help make it happen! The timeline is December 2008 > June 2009! This is a REAL program (not lip service) with a real mayor who really gets it! This is the shot of oxygen that we need so badly! PINCH ME! More details to follow when I write a more complete review of what happened today. I'm still in shock! Guest guest
At the Farmers Union Convention last year, RT Ryback was a guest speaker and this was his pitch to the farmers there. His family buys local and recognizes the value of MN agriculture to the local economy. We had a nice visit after he spoke, he really seemed sincere. He understands the economics of it very well.
