Guest guest
I'd call and ask for the ranges. You might ask if they are just saying the " lab " was normal or you are normal. Hehe. You might also ask again about " normal " with symptoms. Kate G At 02:23 PM 3/25/2008, you wrote: >I got my lab results from Dr. today -- along with a prescription to >Armour. Guest guest
Did the labs have what the normal range is? It would be helpful if you could post them, if they are available. So I’m trying to remember. Where you on any thyroid replacement before? Is this a 30 mg starting dose or is it 30 mg increase? I'm frustrated that he didn't check any iron levels or anything else that we had talked about. So maybe Dr. isn't the best option. :-( But I'm happy to now have a script for Armour. Guest guest
Thanks for the details. It is all sounding familiar now. Are your body temps basal (first thing in the AM) or during the day? I go to Dr R. He is concerned with the basal temps. You really have to get rid of the soy. I have been told that soy oil should not be a problem though. It is my understanding that soy lecithin is essentially an oil too. That makes it quite a bit easier. Soy is an anithyroid. Have you had your ferritin or iron low? I don’t think you are supposed to supplement iron unless you know you need it for sure. Are you replacing the Levoxyl with Armour or adding the Armour to the Levoxyl.? ½ grain or 30 mg of Armour is a pretty small dose. As Jan says, what everyone needs is highly individual but 30 mg is pretty low. I’m sure others will chime in with their thoughts. Hang in there! I've listed what it says below: T3 Total: 90-200 (mine is 178) T4: 4.4-12.5 (mine is 10.3) Free T4: 0.73-1.95 (mine is 1.3) I have been on Levoxyl .05 mg for 2 months now. That was prescribed by Dr. Kormeir. I wanted to give Armour a try which led me to find Dr. on the Armour doc list for Houston. Dr. Kormeir found me to be sub-clinically hypothyroid after a TSH Stimulation test was done. My numbers went up by 10x -- not sure what that means other than my thyroid didn't handle the hormone stimulation well. I discussed with Dr. that I have felt like I had hypo symptoms for nearing 9 years now but was told that my numbers were within the ok range. He said that it could take up to 3-4 months before I started feeling much of a difference from the medication. 9 years is a long time for my body to be functioning at below normal. I do feel some better than before. I have a bit more energy and I sleep better most nights. My body temp has gone up from 96.7 to 98.2. I'm hoping that change will keep me from getting sick all the time. I also have less headaches than I did before. So these are good signs. I still have cold hands and feet, brain fog, low energy in the afternoons, weight that won't budge and low s*x drive. Some days are worse than others with these symptoms. I'm hoping that taking Armour will make me feel that much better. After joining this group I have learned to restrict my soy intake. I haven't been able to completely kick it out of my diet but I have reduced it quite a bit. I have started taking an iron supplement (65 mg) as well as a chelated magnesium supplement (250-500 mg depending on if I remember to take the second pill). The magnesium may be what is responsible for my better nights sleep. I will give this route some time and see how I'm doing. I might end up heading up to see Dr. R in Lubbock. -Janet
Guest guest
If you think that you may want to come to Lubbock to see Dr R, you may want to get an appointment made. My friend wanted to get in, and it was going to be June before she could get in. She knows she is hypoT among other things. I don't know if she went ahead and made an appointment. I hope she did. She really is fatigued and trying to keep up with a 14 and 12 year old daughter. Marcie Janet Daghri wrote: On the lab report there is a column for "Expected Range". Guest guest
Just keep in mind that your labs might not correlate with how you feel. A lot of us have pretty normal looking labs but still definitely have symptoms of hypothyroidism. As you have noted, it might take changing a doctor who will treat according to symptoms, basal temps and physical exam along with the labs. It sounds like you are doing okay with the soy. I hope the 30 mg helps you feel better! I will keep that in mind if I end up giving up on Houston docs. Kim, my temps are basal. The Armour is instead of Levoxyl that I am currently taking. I know that I'm on a small amount of meds. I figure it is just for starters and to see how things go. But with this second round of tests showing that I am " within range " it seems that I will likely stay on the smaller dosage. I didn't realize that soy oils and soy lecithin are not really a problem. That is what I have a harder time getting out of my diet. I'm very careful on what I eat first thing after taking my meds in the morning. I don't really use soy in any other way like protein powders, diet items that use soy protein, etc. Chinese/Japanese foods are really the only time I know I get soy outside of an ingredient in breads or packaged foods (which I don't do too much of anyway). I only eat oriental food on an occasional basis. Thanks so much for all the comments and support! I've been learning a lot from this group!!!
