Guest guest
You might also want to visit : The Westview School Briarwood School The Joy School Monarch School KK Parish School/Arbor Hi I'm new..I will be relocating to Houston area for next school yr. I am getting ready to tour a few private schools and have read the archives regarding some schools. Does anyone have experience with the Parish school? I see it's more language based/not just for kids on the spectrum. My son would be kindergarten age nxt year and is high functioning but, not very verbal..the speech is coming along though. Give me your opinions on the Arbor school too (It seems they do a lot of Floortime from the website)..

Guest guest
I can't believe that these schools cost $30K! I really wanted my son to go to Monarch for FLoortime, but I can't afford the $25K a year. I'm a stay at home mom. Even Bridges/Foortime, for 3 hours a day, is $1,200 a month. Needless to say, we are going to have to try public school for a little while to see if it works. If it does not, it may take me going back to work and putting my 3 year old in one of these. > > There is also the Crossroads School > (http://www.crossroadsschoolhouston.org/index.html) >
Guest guest
Arbor does not do Floortime. Arbor is not an ABA day treatment program, but they do try to employ some of the practices from the field of ABA. Guest guest
My experience was many years ago so much may have changed since then. At the time we went through the entry process for Parish, they were trying to set themselves up as a diagnostic center as well as a school but didn't communicate that very well. My son had gone through a lot of testing through another center so we had mounds of paperwork already. However, they insisted that he go through their testing as well at a fairly pricey amount. After two days of testing, they told us that they did not have a place for him because his functioning level was too low. I had heard from a few other families that had the same experience. At that time, there did appear to be a tendency for the school to only admit the most highest functioning kids. I would have understood that if they had stated that up front rather than required expensive testing to then just reject our child when they could have known his functioning level from other test results we had provided. If I am remembering correctly, Arbor was the other school we really liked. The people there were wonderful with the kids. However, they had a tendency to admit the more needy kids (lowest functioning) first. My son was on their waiting list for many years but never got in. He was kind of caught in the middle -- too low functioning for Parish and too high functioning for Arbor. Our experience was over ten years ago though so much could have changed.
