TEA won't do TAKS testing on primary day

The Texas Education Agency will not conduct TAKS testing on the March 4

primary election day, avoiding the potential for disruptions for students.

" By moving testing dates, we can preserve schools as polling places and

maintain a calm, quiet, secure testing environment for our students, " said

Commissioner of Education .

Fort Worth school district officials had initially rejected a request from

Tarrant County to use 34 schools as polling places, siting possible

disruptions.

Since then, the school district has agreed to let the county use 30 schools.

Under the change by the TEA, the new schedule will test students on March 3,

5, 6 and 7.
