As I mentioned the other day, I was reading a novel about a biological terrorist attack.

At the end of the novel, the infected terrorist had made it into a major US airport and was going around wiping infection spit on railings, doorknobs, etc. When the team, not a government team mind you but a contracted Private Military Company (deniability, not subject to silly PC rules about not profiling and all that), tried to take him down, they missed and the terrorist ran through the crowded airport spraying people from a squeeze pump bottle filled with water and infected blood, in addition to stabbing people. He was eventually stopped.

The government press release was that a crazy person had entered the airport and was spraying water on people and stabbed a few people before he was taken down by good Samaritans and Department of Homeland Security people. No mention was ever made of the terrorist being a terrorist, where they were from or about the bioweapon. By the same token, no mention was made of the other infected terrorists who had been sent but died before reaching their targets.

It is an amusing coincidence between reading that story and this real life event happening. It is entirely possible that the Canadian government is covering up a real incident for fear of causing a panic. However, I think the real reason they want to avoid a panic is because it would expose how much of a failure the government's current plans are and there would be other repercussions. First off, the government might have to upset its powerful backers and set a real and effective program. Second and more devastating as far as the politicians are concerned, some of them might get voted out of office.

Doesn't Canada have that delightful parliamentary tradition of votes of no confidence and referendums to force elections? That is something that, even though disruptive, seems like a good idea. Goodness knows the current Congress in the US is asking for a vote of no confidence what with its approval rating having been in the teens in the last year.

Are we ever going to know any facts about this woman who died or are we going to be subjected to musical claims on a regular basis? I think there's far more going on than the media and government are letting on.RavenCo-AdministratorWondering what's for Dinner Tonight? Get new twists on family favorites at AOL Food.

They probably came down here to join the 20 to 30 million living in the US, waiting for the Amnesty to come in a few years.

Sad state of affairs to report. Last week, it was reported that 41,000 illegal immigrants slated for deportation recently have all disappeared into the fabric of the country.RavenCo-AdministratorWondering what's for Dinner Tonight? Get new twists on family favorites at AOL Food.

That's very interesting. Another shining example of socialized medicine at work.

I'm not sure what policy we have here in the US. There was an article about two weeks ago maybe about a proposed triage of care in case of a major outbreak. Those to be denied were the sickly elderly, those with severe diseases like major heart or other organ disease, burn victims and so on. It all made sense, basically reserving resources for those mostly likely to respond well to them. However, there was already criticism and very likely there would be lawsuits if it was ever implemented because the proposal violated certain anti-discrimination laws, particularly those related to the elderly. I really would like to see lawyers sue over this. I wonder how long they would last once all those parents with sick children got after them?

My biggest concern is that there will be some kind of flu or other outbreak in China during the Olympics and they will try to hush it up. Then people will go home all over the world taking it with them. Even if they don't hush it up, the natural inclination will be for people to try to run home. I really don't see us quarantining aircraft on landing, particularly not if the families are protesting outside the gates. (Of course my solution would be to let the families in and quarantine them too, let them get sick off their family members if they want but not spread it.)

Three weeks ago, my son's teacher was slated for hip surgery. It was put off because of illness within the hospital setting. The patients were told NOT to mention this to anyone but they did reveal they were concerned it was perhaps SARS. Wondering what's for Dinner Tonight? Get new twists on family favorites at AOL Food.
