When I visited counselors, they didn't really help me all that much per se. Mostly it was just to have someone to talk to. We did sometimes talk about my issues, but usually at the end of sessions when there wasn't much time left. For the most part, just having someone to talk to who wasn't going to laugh at what I said or be terribly judgmental was a help. Sort of like letting off some pressure and I could handle most of the issues myself after that.

I think counselors tell us things like that either to provide us with empathy, or just to try to get us to understand how terrible the experience was because at the time, we just plodded through it.But I have never found counseling to do anything for me in terms of getting rid of the anger. It was usually just sympathy on their part and that was supposed to solve everything. I found that annoying. AdministratorWondering what's for Dinner Tonight? " It got me thinking about how often things that I have said in

counselling and how the counsellor would often say things like 'that

was a terrible thing to have to go through' and similiar words. "
