Guest guest
I am not the most informed on this forum, but it sounds like you need to see a better doctor. I see Dr. in Lubbock but Dr. Vivian might be someone good to see in Houston if that is who you are mentioning (there is also Dr. ). Synthroid worked for me at first but once I had my partial thyroidectomy it stopped working. I am slowly, very slowly, doing better on Armour. You might want to see someone who looks into adrenals and presribes armour as opposed to just synthroid. I do hope someone else will post some better help for you but it all starts with a good dr and most endo's are not it. OK - I've posted twice before. History: Total thyroidectomy 28years ago at 2 y/o due to large goiter. Mom and grandmother both had thyroid cancer.I had been on 125mcg Synthroid my entire life and did well until my20's. My internist sent me to an Endo - Dr. Fox. She tested TSHwhich was 3.98 in 12/07. She increased my Synthroid to 137mcg. I then saw my internist again since I did not care for Dr. Fox. Heincreased me 2 weeks ago to 150mcg but drew my labs 2 weeks later. They just came back and he just called me.TSH: 0.088 (.35-5.5) T4: 11.8 (4.5-12.0)T3: 177 (85-205)He adjusted the Synthroid b/c I am so fatigue. I also was on birthcontrol at the time of the 3.98 reading and have since gotten off ofthat because I had bad headaches. Question: Am I just NUTS b/c to me with a reading of 0.08 of TSH, Iwould think one would be agitated or having tons of energy. I amsluggish and my house is a wreck. This is not the normal me. Idon't understand how you can go from 3.98 to 0.08 in 4 months on a slight increase in T4. This is awful and I need help. I am 5'6 " andnow weigh 142lbs. I have always weighed 120's. I don't know what isgoing on. I did switch several birth controls starting about 2 years ago and maybe that's what messed my thyroid up, but there has to be abetter solution. I like the BCP because it does help with menstrualmigraines. Now, I'm on NO hormones b/c I'm desperate. Dr. Fox was a joke and I'm thinking of trying Dr. ????My internist suggested yet again, another anti-depressant but I'vebeen on EVERY one of them - he told me to think about which one Iwould like to start again! They never helped me but gave me side effects. I do not feel depressed nor have anything to be depressedabout! Is that truly what's causing this weird fatigue. He drewevery lab - Glucose, CBC and liver were all completely normal.------------------------------------
Guest guest
I am CERTAINLY not giving any medical advice. I am a long way from being qualified. My suggestion is to find a good doctor and start at square one. There has got to be something you can do. What area are you in??? Also, I asked a question and never got an answer. Anybody ever heard of the parathyroid??? What part does it play in the thyroid???Marcie De wrote: OK - I've posted twice before. Guest guest
Hi De, I'm so sorry to hear what you are going through. I have Grave's disease (radioactive iodine for ablation) and have been on 88 mcg Synthroid for about 15 years. But over the past 2-3 years I've had symptoms very similar to yours...despite "normal" T4 and a TSH in the low 1s or even below 1. BTW, since being treated for Grave's, I've had TSH as low as .001 and never had hyper symptoms. And I had unbearable hyper symptoms before I was diagnosed and treated for Grave's (tremor, weight loss, weakness, tachycardia, insomnia...). I wish I had some advice...just wanted to let you know that you're not alone! I have an MD appt. later this month to explore T3 supplementation and adrenal fatiuge/support. I'll be sure to let you know how it goes. Best wishes for success in finding a doctor that will provide you with proper diagnosis and treatment. Take care, mm68De wrote: OK - I've posted twice before. History: Total thyroidectomy 28 years ago at 2 y/o due to large goiter. Guest guest
My mother suffered from hyperparathyroidism. She had the hot nodule removed and has lost 20lbs over the last two years. She went in for a physicle and had really high calcium, and that was really the only symptom that she had. - To: Texas_Thyroid_Groups From: marin@...Date: Wed, 2 Apr 2008 19:47:28 -0500Subject: Re: Labs - Please help http://www.medicinenet.com/hyperparathyroidism/article.htm http://www.parathyroid.com/parathyroid-symptoms.htm Re: Labs - Please help I am CERTAINLY not giving any medical advice. Guest guest
De, You might be like many of us where our symptoms do not correlate with our TSH. Meaning that our lab work looks good but we still feel rotten. You also might feel better on Armour which has both T3 and T4. You might have to change doctors to find one that will treat by labs AND symptoms AND physical exam. Some doctors also use your basal body temp. I think a lot of doctors shove antidepressants down our throats instead of really getting to the bottom of things. I too have been put on them many times. Then when I complained about the side effects, I was essentually told they were in my head. The last time I tried Prozac I got diarrhea. I was told to double the Prozac so I had double the diarrhea. Since actually treating my thyroid and adrenals, I feel better and absolutely KNOW that I was not depressed. Kim in No Texas > > OK - I've posted twice before. Guest guest
Kim, Do you mind me asking - are you under the treatment of a doctor in Texas? Is it ? I am switching to Armour - Synthroid does nothing but make me worse. I do believe I need both T3/4. I am just bummed I have been only treated on Synthroid my whole life. I don't believe I'm nuts and I'm not depressed. Have nothing to be depressed ABOUT except maybe finding a doctor that will HELP ME! I want to switch to Armour and treat the adrenals. I am so excited! Guest guest
Yes, I see Dr . My whole family goes. He is out-of-network for us. We now pay for him through a health spending account through my husband’s work. Going out there has been totally worth the financial and time commitment. If you are able to see Dr R, I don’t think you will be disappointed.
