I nearly NEVER listen to Rush Limbaugh. Although I sometimes agree with him.... I heard him by accident talking about this while on the way home for my Doctor apt. I had to look it up to believe it myself. I am just freaking out.

This makes me SO mad..... I keep hearing about how inclusion works.. and I am so divided on it.

I mean.. I realize that having our kids out in society is a good thing. I hear and see good things about inclusion esp. in the schools....But at the same time.. I wonder, have we been included, but STILL not accepted???

That never occurred to me, Carol. You have a point, as sick as this

makes me-follow the money trail. This makes it all the more important to

really consider who you are voting for this fall. Universal health care

is NOT something I ever want to see happen in the US.

I definitely don't want universal health care here in the US. I just had a horrible experience in Canada with my daughter.

, that is horrible! How is your daughter now? Poor baby! I broke my elbow several years ago - I KNOW how bad that hurts!! I am so sorry for you! I have a Canadian friend who would have died from a brain tumor had she not come to the US for treatment. Canada's waiting time for MRIs and later for surgery was so far out, she would not have survived that long.

Shari

My father in law is really bad off in the hospital in Quebec and we were told he might not make it much longer. So we packed up and drove 2 days to get there. First day up there my husband and I went to see him, no kids could go as he was in isolation. We got home and my daughter 6, who doesn't have good balance tripped going over the threshold and fell on her arm. She doesn't know to put her hands out to break the fall. We took her to the hospital, where dad is, and waited to be seen by the nurse taking everyone's information. Now at the time there is only 3 people ahead of us. It's 11:30am.

At 12:45 the nurse calls us in and talks to my husband. I don't speak french so I have to wait for him to translate. The nurse gets up and takes my daughters arm and starts moving it and my daughter screams in pain. Need a temp. but my daughter won't do it by mouth, so she does it rectally. This nurse is not very gentle. Back to the waiting room.

1:30...Next stop is to pay the bill!! What am I paying for as she hasn't been seen and no x-rays, diagnosis!! We go to see the clerk taking the money and she says they can't see her because they don't take American healthcare cards. Cash only. No cash, leave!! We aren't to happy about this and my husband said that we were 2 1/2 hours from Vermont and we could go there. He goes to tell his dad in intensive care that we have to go back to the states. Fortunately my sister in law happened to have just gotten there and she came down to talk to the clerk. She paid the $800 (CDN) for us so my daughter could be seen. We also were told by my insurance company to make sure they put the bill in US dollars and the clerk said she would do that. She didn't.

4:00 Finally an x-ray. Doctor came in shortly afterwards and said there was a break between her elbow and wrist. Also the wrist might be broken so we want another x-ray. She also said that they would bring her some tylenol since she must be in lots of pain, which she was. She can't talk but can sign to me where it hurt. She always kept pointing to her elbow.

Got the wrist x-rayed.

We sit, and sit and pace. We even took turns going up to see my father in law.

6:30 my husband and sister in law stop a nurse in the hallway and asked her to find our nurse. Our nurse comes into our room and asked what the problem was. My husband and sister in law laid into her about not having the tylenol yet and that it had been ordered 2 1/2 hours earlier. The nurse said it wasn't her fault and if we didn't like it there we could go to the states!! ( I'm glad they didn't tell me what she said until later, because I would have gotten in her face and told her what I thought of her in English!!) Well it wasn't my daughters either and she was in pain, and also thirsty and hungry. NO food/drinks allowed in ER.!!

Finally at 7pm she got tylenol. Doctor came in and said the arm and wrist were broken and she might need surgery. She would talk to an bone doctor and get back with us. I told my husband that we would leave and go back to the states for surgery.

7:30...Doctor came back and said the arm is broke in 1 place and no surgery needed.

8:pm...cast put on and doctor said her bill would be only $75 and since the clerks office was closed (4pm) she could take cash. Got just a plain old receipt for that and my insurance company probably won't accept it. Still trying to get a good bill for that. Guess she took the payment under the table.

We left and went and got food. My daughter was so hungry. She's 6 but only weighs 33 pounds.

TWO days later, we go visit my father in law, he's got a note from the doctor stating that my daughters arm might not be broken afterall and take her to our doctor in the states for more x-rays!! Are you kidding me??? Are these not doctors??

Back home in the states, I took her right in to our doctor. New x-rays revealed broken elbow and not arm where doctor in Canada told us. The cast from fingertips to 1 inch above the elbow and our doctor said it was used with material that she hadn't seen in years and probably was " western " . Doctor also said that their cast should have been put up to her armpit to secure the elbow and that my daughter had been uncomfortable and in pain with the one from Canada.

Since then the hospital in Quebec has called my father in law stating we still owe them money!! Well let them find us and come get it because I refuse to pay them anymore.

My husband is Canadian and he was so mad at his country for treating us the way they did. They were very rude. I know here in the states no one would have been denied treatment or even been treated the way we were. But what can you expect. You get what you pay for. Their healthcare isn't that great up there. You wait hours and hours and people line up in the hallways of the ER and they die waiting to be seen. It's horrible. Especially for the young and the elderly.

this mistake wasn't on my child with Ds it was on me (I also have a high tolerance for pain) Those 'mistakes' really both me (ins or not) because our kids have a high pain tolerance and we do our best to keep them well. It doesn't make me feel very confident when I think about drs mis-diagnosing them. Shirley Re: [DownSyndromeInfoEx change] wow...this headline and comments by the doctor are just unbelievable! Oh, , I am so sorry for you! You MUST have a high threshold for pain! I cried when they moved my arm for the xray! That first doctor you saw must have been way too inexperienced or SOMETHING. That is negligent! They didn't cast mine either - just put it in a sling.

Shari - another thing we have in common! :-)I broke my elbow on Valentine's Day this year - initially the hospital, here in the states no universal health care (goes to show it isn't always due to that) said it wasn't broken. Because I did it at work, Workman's Comp required me to return after a week. Since the swelling was worse and I still couldn't move it, they did a 2nd x-ray and this time the doc said it was definately broken (said he wasn't sure why the first doc missed it)! So I went for a week with a broken elbow, no pain meds, no cast (they never did cast it - said it just sling it if it hurt too bad!) Thank God I have a high threshold for pain. Elbow still hurts, can't completely straighten it and probably never will. That was with insurance and in the states.

I'm in OK and it rained all morning, heavy and steady, but the sun is out now. I think it going to rain all weekend because of IKE.

I'm glad you are getting the much needed rain. We needed it too....but it really wasn't THAT dry.
