TEACHING VERBAL BEHAVIOR:

HANDS ON TRAINING FOR TUTORS AND THERAPISTS

Location: The Carbone Clinic

Time: Registration at 8:00am - presentation runs 8:30-5:00

This two-day workshop is designed to provide tutors, therapists, and parents

that serve as their child's primary therapist with guided practice in

implementation of the teaching methods described by Dr. Carbone in

Workshop

#1: Introduction to Verbal Behavior. Substantial workshop time will be dedicated

to guided practice in methods of effective instruction as demonstrated via

video tape during the Introductory Workshop. Each participant will receive

individualized feedback regarding teaching methods.

Instruction and supervised practice is provided for the following areas:

Establishing instructional control with an unwilling learner

Manipulating motivative operations (MO) during teaching opportunities to

maintain attention and maximize learning

Use of the Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills (ABLLS) in

developing instructional objectives

Teaching the echoic repertoire

Transitioning from sign language to vocal verbal behavior

Manipulating MOs to teach early to advanced manding skills

Teaching early to advanced skills within the following areas: receptive,

visual performance, motor imitation, tacting, and intraverbal

Organizing program materials

Recording data that guides teaching

Prerequisites: Attendance or Dr. Carbone's Workshop #1: Introduction to

Verbal Behavior and experience in teaching children with autism. Please bring

the

ABLLS with you.
