Guest guest
Believe it or not, there IS good local food on the Sysco trucks! Yes, it is limited, but the code can be broken and we have done it at Thousand Hills. It's called " coming in the back door " and here's how we did it. Certain enlightened individuals at the U of M wanted our 100% grass-fed beef to serve at their food service. Since political contracts prevent us from driving the meat there in our truck, we came to Sysco with a new account and for the last 2 years our meat has been on the Sysco truck. Any small college, or any customer of Sysco can have it delivered right on the same Sysco truck. There are several other implications from this: 1) You can get Sysco to carry many other products just the way we did it. 2) The " Other Sysco " , Upper Lakes Foods (Cloquet, MN) also handles some of these accounts. They carry our beef as well. 3) Many small colleges and universities can order from other vendors, for example, we deliver our beef to several colleges direct. It can be done. 4) Many local farmers can deliver direct to a corporate headquarters or institution as well. 5) Our own Traditional Foods Warehouse can deliver to these accounts as well. All it takes is enlightened people to speak up, to be direct and to get active. This will break the system. We are already doing it!
