Guest guest
Just fair warning that if another post on the issue of school vouchers/scholarships, whatever - is in any way cutting down another person's views and not instead educating us all on the facts - in an non-inflammatory or accusing way - that person will be set to moderation. This issue is a very huge issue for Texas and there are many opinions/facts about this issue. It is very much a heated issue and there is division - to an extent.... I know that we all want the same outcome: A Free and Appropriate Public Education. There are many ways to achieve that and we need to be informed about that. But cutting down another person in the process will not be tolerated. Saying things like " ...but this group opposed that and instead we got nothing.... " -- things of that nature are inflammatory. And that's not an exact quote from anyone's post - just the gist of the underlying sarcasm I can read into. I don't know what the solution is, but I am open to hearing all sides so I can make an informed decision. I don't know how else to word this - respect each other's view and do not send personal attacks or defenses if you feel attacked -- through this list. Debate those things personally among yourselves. While we are doing those things - folks at TEA are sitting back sipping their Starbucks secure in their job. We need to turn these emotions toward the source - which is not each other - but those who are responsible for creating this situation. For every post sent back in forth to each other on this issue on this list -- I certainly hope to Gosh that 2 were sent first to TEA and your Legislators......... Sincerely, M. Guppy M. Guest guest
I belong to both the Texas Autism Advocacy Yahoo group and the Ohio Autism Yahoo group. For those who doubt the success of the Ohio Autism Scholarship Program , I suggest you become a member of that group and compare the tone of the posts and hopefulness with the Texas group and make the decision for yourself on which system seems to work for kids with autism. Tammy Re: From the listowner and moderator " Saying things like " ...but this group opposed that and instead we got nothing.... " -- things of that nature are inflammatory. And that's not an exact quote from anyone's post - just the gist of the underlying sarcasm I can read into. " , you mischaraterizing my comment is only furthering the divide. I said it was my opinion that our lack of unity sent a mixed message that MAY have convinced our legislators this is not a big enough problem to require immediate action. NO sarcasm whatsover. This could have been posted by someone on either side of this issue. The same would be true if a group opposed the insurance bill because it cut off services at age 5 - since that wouldn't help everyone equally. But that did not happen and the bill passed. My opinion was met by a slew of personal attacks calling me " vicious " and a liar and mischaracterizing my statements as an attack on everyone opposing the bill as " harming children " and pushing a fabricated " voucher " view on everyone. These people are allowed to continue to post and the ones defending me are censored and now threatened in this post to be put on " moderation. " I've really had enough of being reprimanded for sharing an opinion, and blocked form clarifying my position while personal attacks are permitted and those who attack are martyred by the moderator. You have left me with no choice but to resign from this list. I hope others can remain who will not be isolated for opposing views. Guest guest
Tammy, I am a member of your group Ohio Autism Scholarship Program and repeatedly posted here on TAA about the many families loving their scholarship benefit in Ohio. I am glad you posted. So far, we have not created change, but hopeful with the 81st we can change something at our State level with the Texas Education Agency. There are many families who are working again at the grassroot level to create something better for Texas, not sure what, but we WANT to do something BIG :>) We appreciate your friendship. I was always impressed with how families posted to find how they could use the scholarship benefit. It was pretty nice to read posts about finding solutions instead of bickering and feuding with our school districts.
