Guest guest
Hi a, Have you tried the probiotic Bifidus? Metagenics makes a dairy free powder that needs refrigeration. Many chiropractors carry it, as does Nutritional Weight and Wellness. They have stores in Wayzata, St. and White Bear Lake. I would give her 1/8 tsp 3 to 4 times a day, and build to 1/4 tsp 3 to 4 times a day. See if that makes a difference. That may also help with her being a picky eater. Many people think you need an assortment of probiotics in one capsule, but we have found it very beneficial with just the one strain. That is the good bacteria that is in breast milk, and why it is also added to the formula from NT. There may be something in her diet that is aggravating it. There are also some essential oils that could help. Which one kind of depends on the individual. Call me if you want more specifics. My two-year-old daughter is suffering from severe constipation. When she " goes " it hurts so she has decided NOT to go, which of course makes the problem even worse. The pediatrician prescribed Milk of Magnesia which has not been working and I am worried that it may do her more harm than good. She is a very picky eater at present and the only thing I can be sure she will eat consistently is kefir smoothies. I've been tossing lots of blueberries in, but they aren't making a difference. I feel so bad for her and I'm getting panicky! Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can throw in the kefir smoothies to help her? Thank you!! a
Guest guest
a, I second and third the probiotic suggestion. My nephew (2.5m) is in excruciating pain from constipation if he misses his probiotics. (He is formula fed so he is not getting probiotics via mama's milk.) The effects of probiotics are profound! I am also wondering if it is possible to slowly and gently encourage her to eat more foods? If you want to talk about that further, let me know. Blessings,
Guest guest
For starters, try yogurt instead of kefir. Kefir actually causes constipation for some people. I know people who have had the same experience with their kids and it improved when they got rid of the kefir. The Body Ecology Diet also says that kefir causes constipation. Fruit also seems to make my daughter have harder stools, especially bananas. We have been making smoothies lately with probiotics, coconut milk or 24-hour yogurt, strawberries, celery, beet kvass, egg yolks and just a dash of honey. Believe it or not, this is a great combination! My toddler drinks them right up. Sometimes I throw in nuts, parsley, carrots or whatever I have on hand that I want her to eat. She has never been constipated. Best wishes,
Guest guest
I have only had constipation one time in my life and it was the first time I drank kefir. It tasted so good that I had two large cups and I was sorry the next day. I can drink it now with no problems. I suggest you start with other types of probiotics first. I often hear of kefir working wonders for explosive diarrhea. You didn¹t say how long she has had constipation, but I would see someone experienced about that. I have seen constipation cause all kinds of things including seizures. It¹s important to eliminate daily or toxins build up. There are health professionals listed in the database. Guest guest
Hi, I recently listened to Donna Wild's lecture from WAPF conference 07. She suggests blackstrap molasses for constipation - as it is rich in magnesium, trace minerals, b. vitamins and iron. Dosage for adults: 4-6 tbsp per day. for children i'm not sure, but i'd definately give it a try. good luck, arabella
Guest guest
How much fat is she getting in her diet? That can make a difference. Can you use higher fat milk when you make her kefir or culture cream with your kefir grains? Add coconut oil to the smoothies?
