Ask the doctor about if he needs to be on any to prevent any upper gi bleeds .Wouldn't hurt to ask him and the meds could help if not meds ask if he banded the varices .

Ok-Hubby just corrected me. They tried to send him

for a biopsy 5 years ago, but it required a $1700

copay (which obviously we did not have).

Geeze that is a high copay but sounds more like a hospital copay , biopsies can be done as an outpatient and the copays are less that way . Even then you can make payment arrangements to pay it off monthly , that is what I have to do each time I have a procedure or hospital stay .

Hi babygirlmadelineNO, thats NOT what I am saying.. He IS responding to tx and that is VERY GOOD! I was refering to the numbers dropping while one is NOT on treatment and after many years of infection.. Im so glad he is responding , especially since he is stage 4! If he is able to put this into remission (SVR) and keep it that way, if his liver were to fail and he needed a liver transplant, his new liver would not be reinfected and thats a good thing, very good thing! So the point is that his numbers are going down and he IS on treatment,, so the treatment IS working,, that is good! You should encourage him to continue on and do everything just as he is doing now cuz its working... so far...babygirlmadeline wrote: Ok now I have a question. I joined this group awile ago and just read the posts daily. My husaband has hep c. He started treatment 5 weeks ago at that time his vl was 1.5 million at his 4 week check up his vl was 15,000 he is also a stage 4 cirrhosis. So are you saying his vl is down because the liver is sicker not because of the treatment. I am confused his dr is very pleased with his response to treatment. Very little side effects and all of his blookwork came back within a normal range. Does anyone have an idea why numbers of a viral load would drop > considerably & why? > > > > > > > Jackie > Jackie
