Guest guest
Contact your local CPS office and see if they would let you come into a staff meeting to talk about autism. Recently talked to the lady in charge of staff training at the Lubbock CPS office and she was real open to the idea. Bless you for educating the police force. Our son escaped out of our home three times in one week, even managing to find where we hid our keys. On two of the incidents, neighbors found him and called police because he was not able to say his name or where he lived. The third incident, we found him. Since then, we have installed combination locks on all doors and it has solved our problem. However, we did have a CPS officer come to our house and open a case on us because our son ran away. She was not very educated about autism, and said she " googled autism " before coming to our home. The entire incident had me completely frazzled, and you can imagine the thoughts I had about CPS taking my child away! I know that is standard procedure for the police to follow, but it would be helpful for them to know that autistic individuals are: nonverbal, have no sense of danger (can run away or in front of cars), and can be emotional/ agressive. I would also be very happy if someone in CPS was a trained officer in autism. Just my 2 cents... Thanks! __________________________________________________________ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Mobile.
