Guest guest
Hi, Thanks to everyone who replied. Since I am a pro ABA mom....I do very greatly value BCBAs and I would certainly choose one to overlook my child's program(if I can afford it unfortunately). I am aware that a BCBA only gets his/her certificate after a Masters whether it is in ABA or something else which is the same as a PhD who has to have a Masters first...so I guess a Board Certification(whether in Behavior Analysis or in medicine or in something else) is very close academically to a PhD (but not equivalent). I gave the example of a medical doctor in my previous post.......maybe here I could ask would you go to a PhD or a Board Certified medical doctor????? Unfortunately nobody could exactly answer my question ? In ABA of course I would choose a Board Certified Behavior Analyst ......actually I never heard of a PhD in behavior analysis. Another question....maybe S. or would know. Would school districts accept an evaluation done by a BCBA.......(since you say it is not yet licensed in Texas).......my guess....ONLY if he/she is a licensed teacher? or has a degree in psychology? or university staff member? Does anybody know? I have a feeling they would use a BCBA to do a Functional Behavior Assessment or a Behavior Intervention plan only but not an academic evaluation!!!!!!!which is very frustrating as I know a BCBA does have a good psychology background and in a private school or home program would set a plan or IEP which is much more superior and has many achievable goals.....than a normal licensed school psychologist would.
