Guest guest
oh, i haven't had it approved yet. i'm just working on it. i'm trying to use a little bit of logic with them - we'll see if it works. i've told the case manager that for a child with autism, aba is certainly a valid therapy to consider along with ot and pt and speech and music and hippo, which is all readily available. and i'm not knocking any of the therapy - we're signed up for hippo & raring to go. but seriously, a little aba here and there would probably be more beneficial right now than the hippotherapy. i've been trying to get a helmet on my stubborn one for weeks now (have to wear a riding helmet to get on the horse) and he's not happy about it. no helmet, no horsey. just a thought - an aba therapist on hand for a few sessions just might help me get that helmet on his head so he can take advantage of the horseback riding. case manager is supposed to be looking into aba and floortime for me. also, just an fyi, they are willing to take three bids for 'nanny cam' installation to see if that would be covered under necessary equipment. my argument there is that my son is non-verbal - can't tell me if anyone was mean to him, if he got his favorite snack... also, it would be great for the assistant to say, look what an amazing thing he did today! or he did this or that and i didn't know what to do - i can review the video and give my two cents on how to respond to certain behavior (and probably cry if he does something amazing for the first time & I missed it). they're both logical arguments to me. not understanding why they won't just say, you're right! fingers crossed! might just be the precedent. Also, it covers medical equipment if needed and there are respite hours included. downside - if you don't already have someone to come care for your child, you're at the mercy of the service provider agency to find qualified attendants and so far we haven't found one qualified. but - it's there. ashley proa wrote: yes there are programs, but only for those who recieve ECI/Ready start and that stops after age three. if he is on social security, he should automatically qualify for medicaid. Should he qualify ofr medicaid, and you have major medical, you might quailfy for the HIPP reimbursement program that reimburses you some or all of the insurance premiums that you pay for major medical. it has been a lifesaver for us, so if he has medicaid and you want more info on HIPP, let me know, and i'll send you the info i've got.
