Guest guest
Helen Mom to Matt (CVID) No IVIG. Sat there for a few hours waiting then the " boss doc " showed up. That is after the new student on rounds. As of today there is still no approval. The day was not a total wash though. " boss doc Ballows " saw clinical evidence of Matts ongoing congestion and coughing spasms dispite his antibiotic treatments. We had good conversations and he listened to my concerns and agreed to nasal swabs and chest x-ray. He also wanted a new CAT scan of sinuses and to " challange " him to Biaxin (he is allergic to zithromax). So we got all that done. The films looked good. No sign of infection in the sinuses so now his thought is adnoiditis (did I mention Matt is sawing wood again...snoring...his adnoids were removed at 2yo) and talking with Doc Pizzuto (ENT). He also mentioned a ph probe as many of these types of symptoms can be from reflux. Sooooo that was our day. I am feeling confident that the doctors are honestly looking for ways to present to the insurance company validated Matts need. We discussed going ahead with the IVIG without approval. It did not seem like an option as Dr. Ballows stated thats like playing with fire. I am also not willing to manage that financial burdon today...should insurance put up a stink and disgard Matts insurance. He is on a state funded program that subsidises my out of pocket costs. Thank you everyone for your thoughts. I appreciate them deeply. Hopefully Biaxin will be the hero abx of the week. Helen
