Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I'm going to brag on my son, because I know you'll all understand! Sam's 11 and has Asperger's. Our biggest problems at school have been with behavior. Sam's Asst Principal (AP) called this morning to tell me about an incident on Friday. Another kid threw pizza at Sam. Sam stood and loudly told him to stop, then sat back down and continued eating, and also reported it to the cafeteria monitor. After the AP reviewed the cafeteria video tapes, he suspended both the pizza thrower and 2 other kids who were egging it on! Because Sam did the right thing (no cursing, no retaliation), he got big praise from the AP. AP also told Sam that the boys admitted they were just trying to get a reaction from Sam, and were very disappointed they didn't get one. AND, any future incidents by these boys will be classified as bullying and treated accordingly. We've been trying to convince Sam forever that his reactions only fuel the other kids to pick on him. This is a BIG positive reinforcement for him to stay calm and report things to the teachers. And hooray for school administrators who mete out discipline to the bullies!!! Those kids are sure going to think twice before they pick on Sam again! I hope everyone has a GREAT day! Joy
