I've been thinking... & Livie's aunt ( & friends!), you guys should look

into buying one of those scopes that can sense fluid in the ear & then based

upon the color is reads on the scope you can tell if the ear is red, fluid,

etc...We have a thermoscan ear thermometer, and I love it! I've considered

buying one of the ear scope thingys because I sometimes suspect an ear

infection & hate to drag them into the dr's office only to be told no, the

ears are fine (don't get me wrong, I'm glad no ear infections), but recently

our 5 yr old came home from school early with an ear ache - SO, we went the

Dr (dragging Abby & her 3 yr old sis,) to discover that the ear ache was due

to more teeth coming in! If I had that ear thing I could have avoided

cramming the four of us into an office the size of a bathroom! Just a

thought...Kimry

Livie! You are giving your aunt a heart condition, girl! ;)

I don't know about you, Lynne, but I cannot WAIT for summer! Bring on that warm and dry weather! We've got to keep these kids healthy!

Hi! My name is Stan-I'm new to the group. We are hot on the trail towards

getting a DOC band for at least one of our twins. It has been extremely

helpful to read through the numerous emails I've received since joining the

group. I am interested in finding the journal article mentioned a week ago,

concerning something like a case study in which the comparison was made

between treated and untreated plagio cases. Our ped is very interested in

seeing the like.

Also, concerning ear infections. I know home remedies may not be for

everyone, but we have used a concoction made from warm olive oil and crushed

garlic. We have monitored all of our " garlic babies " closely and each one

has recuperated wonderfully after placing a couple of drops in the ear

followed by a small cotton wad, NO meds. We did this after we found one of

our first set of twins (yes, we have 2 sets!) was allergic to the meds he

was given. My wife had worked in a health food store for many years and has

a natural interest in herbal remedies, etc.

Hey Stan! Glad you're here!

Twins must run thick in your family. And only a year apart from each other!

You guys are NUTS! ;)

Here's a link to that article I think you mean

http://www.neurosurgery.org/journals/online_j/feb97/2-2-3.html

I'm hunting around right now to see if there is anything new out there. If you

ever find anything interesting and it's not already posted, please put a

shortcut to it in the Links section at the community pages.

Thanks!

Lord, I must have been sleeping at the keyboard. Wouldn't make much sense if

you were contemplating putting helmets or bands on your 7 year old twins, would

it? :)

3 is a tough age. I can see your dilemma. If you send him out for playtime

(like to a playgroup or some such thing), he might feel ostracized by the

family. But, you aren't exactly in the position to have a playgroup at your

house (a bunch of 3-year-olds NO WAY!)

To be sandwiched between 2 sets of twins that always get the coo's and comments

has got to be hard. But, like you said, the 7 year olds are getting to the age

they can be out of your sight for a bit playing at the neighbors or whatever.

Can you or your wife trade off with the 3-year old and the twins for things like

trips to the grocery or drugstore or stuff like that? Where the 3-year old

would have your undivided attention, if only for an hour?

I am not speaking from any kind of insight. I've a 7 year old and a 9 month

old. Multiples are not something I've been blessed with. (and I do mean

BLESSED! ;)

marie and others,

The older boys are always a new frontier for us, being our first. As they

get older they become less physical work-more mental and spiritual work

however.

To share experiences, right now it is not the older three boys that exhaust

us, it's the amount of caretaking time the babies require that tires us.

Twins in general are tough from the perspective that there are often two

coming at you with the same need/desire at the same time. HOWEVER, they

have and had each other to play with all along. We did not get out a lot

with the first set of twins, even less with the second. But they had each

other to play with. It's the single child in our family who is very lonely

and has no peer to play with. He talks often about any number of the Pooh

entourage coming over to play with him-until recently when he sadly

announced that they were stuck in the TV. Sigh-sometimes it tears me up

that I CANNOT give the amount attention all my children want and/or need.

Sometimes it feels like an unsatisfactory pat on the head is all they and I

get on a given day.

Stan:

I can relate to your worry about not giving each child the attention they

crave. We have four kids, and only one set of twins, but all are under the

age of 4 1/4. Oldest girl is almost 4 1/2, second girl is 20 months and

identical twin boys are 8 months. The boys were born at 29 weeks (two weeks

before Michala turned 1!).

The girls are remarkable in their love for the babies. Thankfully they do

not act out at the babies when they are upset with us. It is impossible to

be there for each one. We try to make special time for each of them, and

many, many household chores are left undone!! I'm sure you know!!

Best of luck with all of your guys. Adding a problem like this is tough -

it takes a huge amount of time to make sure you have all of your bases

covered. I hope you have family/friend/church support. I know with our

guys I am thankful that this is the worst of our problems!

Hope you find all of the info you need!

Sue

i've oftenthought of buying an ear thingy especially lately..when steven was

an infant they weren't around or else i was too broke to buy one.i wonder

though how effective they are...if she does have an ear infection whcih seems

weekly now and with every tooth she pops through(related to teething?) i'd

have to take her there and have a prescription written anyway because they

never believe the mom(or auntie in this case).if only there were an m.d.

after my name.

please don't feel like you are not giving them enough attention,no matter

twin or not.i have decided that when i die i will have death by guilt written

on my tombstone and all working mothers, and i onlymean those who work outside

of the home, because ALL MOTHERS ARE WORKING MOTHERS,can relate to that

saying.i always feel like i do not give sufficient attention to my

children(including the baby on loan to us,as we call livie) because i do have

to work outside my home.my boys have always been in daycare because that's

what we have to do in our house and they understand that.we are actively

involved in their lives with sports and scouts and school and feel they will

grow up just fine.i have nightmares that they won't.
