Guest guest
My son has the same difficulties you describe and if you look up Nonverbal Learning Disorders it has many useful ways that have helped my son. Also, the book Helping a Child with Nonverbal Learning Disorder or Asperger's Syndrome that I picked up has loads of information and lists that I scanned & printed out to help the teachers learn how he processes information. We have approached all his difficulties as learning differences. Just because it takes him longer to absorb written text does not mean he doesn't comprehend once he has had the time to process it. As far as instructions given, yes my son needs to hear one thing at a time. He has a IEP which among other things allows him to have more time on tests and quizzes. His homeroom teacher also understood that my son would " shut down " at tasks he deemed impossible or irrelevent and gives him an extra day to finish without penalty.
