Hello to All......

I am writing this request as I sort of have a unique problem.... I

want radiation treatment for my thyroid. I am having a hard time

finding a doctor.... Someone on asked a question earlier in June what

it was like going from Hypo to Hyper..... In my world it is like

experiencing Puberty, Pregnancy and Menopause all at the same

time..... Let me give you all a little background on me

personally... Most of my Thyroid/Hormonal symptoms are

psychological. It has been this way since I was 13. I have been to

a lot of Doctors over the last 18 years. Because all of the doctors

thought my symptoms were psychological they never took me seriously.

Long story short, I found a doctor who took me seriously and gave me

Armor to try to see if it would help. Well evidently there are a

small percentage of people that go from being Hypo to Hyper when they

take thyroid medicine. I am in that group. I went to see my family

physician because I was losing my mind and I knew he would help me.

He did. He gave me a Beta Blocker and that has stopped all of the

psychological symptoms. (If you are Hyper remember this is an

option.) I am a lot calmer now and can think some. My family

physician thinks I need a thyroid scan. He says it will cost me

2,000.00. Technically I have Thyroiditis. No doctor has ever felt a

lump. No one in my family has ever had thyroid cancer. I am afraid

because of my symptoms. I want to just end the chances of this ever

happening again. I just don't have the money for the scan. I also

don't have 4 months to wait for an appointment either. I have trying

to get help since Nov 07. I quit my job in Feb because of the Hyper

but I have the ability to borrow if I can find a doctor to fix this.

I don't want to play with medication because of the symptoms. I just

want this to end. So anyone out there know of a doctor that I can

see that will kill my thyroid??? I would even be willing to drive a

few hours if I know they will help me. If there were any concern for

cancer trust me I would be all over the scan but for me I think it

would be a waste of money I don't have. Any help is greatly

appreciated. Also in my reading I did not find this link posted.

This is a good place to find doctors too.

Hi ,

I've been both hyper (extremely) and hypo (extremely). I know all

about the psychological thyroid symptoms because that is how my

symptoms usually manifest.

However, as a post thyroid radiation person, my suggestion would be to

check in to all other options. After the initial 2 month hyper surge

that the RAI gave me, I got even sicker. I am a year and half post

RAI and am still trying to figure out my thyroid meds. Yes, I do feel

better, but I get extremely sick when my thyroid tries to " come back

to life. " The problem is, even though some (RAI doesn't kill all) of

the thyroid cells are killed, there are still thyroid cells all

throughout your body.

Another problem I developed with the RAI is that my eustachian tube in

my left ear has been blocked, as the radiation ruined the tube. It

may not seem like a big deal, but I've lost some hearing and I get

motion sick very easily because of it.

On the other hand, my sister in law had her thyroid removed surgically

and it was a much easier healing process.. About 6 weeks, vs. a year.

I'm not saying that RAI doesn't have its place, but I had

Graves/Hashimotos and I really wish that I had explored more options.

Take care and good luck!

,

I personally would research this out. RAI or surgery are big steps. Is

the doctor saying you need an ultrasound? If he is, that is a very wise

thing to do. It lets them seem how many nodules you have. Then you can

have an ultrasound every year to monitor for growth.

Symptoms? What exact symptoms are you having. Is your heart pounding,

heart palps, etc. Please list your exact symptoms. Remember thyroid is a

hormone that is tied into other hormones as well as iron. So if you have

adrenal and/or iron issues those can cause you to feel hyper. Please give

us labs too.
