I wanted to chime in on the positive aspects of the c-pap machine. My

DH has used one for for about five years (for snoring/sleep apnea).

His sleep study revealed that his sleep was interrupted more than 200

times per night. He was offered procedures or the machine. He's not

one to jump into procedures so this seemed like the best fit for him.

It took a few different masks until he found the one that he was most

comfortable with. He's ADDICTED to the machine. If he travels, it

goes along. He never realized how exhausted he was until he got the

machine and found out what a good night's sleep is like.

I use the NediMed sinus rinse from Walgreens...works great. Have a neti pot but like the NediMed better.

BTW...I have had severe issues with sinus infections meaning that I had a sinus infection that lasted two years and would not go away. I tried so many abx and had sever fungal issues after that. Anyways, I had surgery and I see Dr. Cecil Yeung. He is off of Montrose and was the first doctor in Houston to do sinus surgery using a laparoscope. I also know many people who have used him and all are happy, including me. I hope you DH doesn't have to go this far but if he does, now you know a surgeon's name.

Also, it did not repair my sleep apnea. I need a cpap machine but just don't want to get one. Will have to look into it more. I just keep thinking that if I can get this extra weight off it will go away. I have been able to lose about 8 lbs in the last 5 weeks so maybe things are looking up :)

Hi all,DH went to a very good ENT doctor on Tuesday. We had a friend of ourshighly recommended him, and I can say that he did not disappoint. If

anyone in the Houston area needs an ENT doctor his name is Dr. RazaPasha with Texas Otolaryngology Partners (TOPs) and the number is. He was also very knowledgable with thyroid issues (for anENT) and was encouraging when he saw that DH was on Armour.

He took one look at DH and said that he had such a restricted airwaythat it was a miracle that he had not had a heart attack or died in hissleep from lack of oxygen. He used the term " life threatening " several

times. He also said it's amazing that DH does not have high bloodpressure or cholesterol (they're perfect, per Dr. R). He also said thatsomething is causing the left side of his nose to be " burnt. " DH

doesn't really snore that much, and he went with stuffy nose issues andallergy problems.... so this was very unexpected. The doctor told himthat he could send him home with a c-pap machine for the rest of his

life, or that if he was willing to endure some tests that they couldcome up with a plan to help him. He was very big on patient educationand patient involvement in deciding a treatment plan. DH has a CT scan

for his sinuses tomorrow, then a sleep test without a c-pap machine onFriday night, and then another sleep test with a c-pap machine onSaturday night. He goes back September 3 for the results, completeallergy testing, and a sinus scope. In the mean time, he told DH that

he needed to start using some sort of over the counter saline wash forhis nasal passages.Does anyone here use a Neti Pot? Does it matter which one you buy? Arethere any tips on use? How did it work for you? Has anyone else had

severe issues with sleep apnea or restricted airways along with theirthyroid issues? I'm off to abuse Google search....Thanks,------------------------------------

I use the sinus rinse that is more like a

squeeze bottle. I used to use a bulb syringe. Here is the website for what I

use. http://www.neilmed.com/usa/index.php

They also sell the Neti Pot which I have

never used. It looks like they even have a video with directions. I love the

little packets that came with it. They are really soothing with warm water.

One tip I read recently that has been

helpful is to say the word “click, click, click” while you are

actually rinsing. For some reason it keeps the rinse in the sinus cavity

rather then coming out in the back of the throat.

The process sounds worse then it is. When

MIL first suggested it to me I thought she was crazy.

,

My friend that does use the CPAP lost a lot of weight once her sleep

improved. Poor sleep contributes to weight gain.

I wanted to thank everyone for their input. I've forwarded all the messages to my hubby (even the turkey baster one!! he'll get a kick of that!) We haven't ruled out the cpap machine but DH definitely wants to know what every option is. Our friend that saw Dr. Pasha has lost 35lbs in 4 months just by getting a good sleep every night and having enough energy to work out a few times a week now. I am hoping that DH will at least be able to have a restful sleep when everything is said and done because for a while he has felt like he has not been getting anywhere with his Armour, DHEA, and vitamins, when poor sleep has been a big unseen factor all along.

Thanks again,

Has your DH considered taking all or part of his Armour at night?

For me, taking my second dose of Armour after 7 pm has been the entire solution to my night breathing problems.

I use a sports bottle with the reclosable cap. I can squeeze it and

get extra water pressure if and when I need it, to get the saline all

the way into my sinuses. One of mine is badly blocked.
