Attached is the registration material or you can register online at www.devereuxsb.org Devereux Santa Barbara - ASA Santa Barbara Chapter Annual Conference on Autism Autism Research and Treatment: A Focus on Families April 1 - 2, 2004 On Thursday, April 1 and Friday, April 2, 2004 Devereux Santa Barbara and the Santa Barbara Chapter of the Autism Society of America, in conjunction with the M.I.N.D. Institute at UC Health Systems in Sacramento, will be conducting a series of presentations on Autism to highlight April as National Autism Awareness Month. It is our hope that this conference will promote increased collaboration among researchers, treatment providers, and families. We also hope that this collaboration can establish systematic communications to provide vital information to public policy decision makers as they deal with the growing numbers of Californians diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Rick Rollens, ARCA representative and father of , ASD, will be opening the conference on April 1 at 2:00 PM followed by Jacquelyn McCandless, MD (neurologist, psychiatrist and author of " Children with Starving Brains " ) who will conduct a workshop on Biomedical Interventions for Children with Autism. Following this, Eddie Tuduri will be performing with some of his drummers and discussing about drum therapy for children with disabilities. Meghan Finn, a singer with Syndrome will also be performing. Following these performances, we will be hosting a reception from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM to provide a forum for conference participants to meet informally and be joined with community leaders and media representatives to increase awareness of Autism in our community. On Friday, the conference will begin with a keynote address from a series of speakers including: Dr. Hendren and Dr. Randi Hagerman from the M.I.N.D. Institute; Dr. Ron Huff from the Department of Developmental Services; Lou Vismara and Rick Rollens, founders of the M.I.N.D. Institute, and Dr. Savin, Vice President of Clinical Services for Devereux. Following these presentations, breakout sessions will provide a variety of topics related to Autism. Topics will be presented by some of the most distinguished names in autism today. Dr. Doreen Granpeesheh, Founder and Clinical Director of the Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) will discuss the CARD protocol, Attorney Angelo will lecture on insurance rights for people with ASD and Dr. Ron Huff , Rick Rollens and members of our local Tri-Counties Regional Center will discuss autism and it's impact on the California Developmental Disabilities System, just to name a few. There will be three breakout sessions where these speakers will be featured. Resource booths and tables will be setup and will provide information on a number of organizations and services related to Autism, and be available: Thursday 4 PM to 7:30 PM; Friday until 6 PM A conference registration fee of $25.00 covers all costs of the conference including workshops on both days, the reception on Thursday, and lunch on Friday. Scholarship funds are available for those registrants for those registrants that may need financial assistance. Space is limited, so please register as soon as possible to ensure your participation.
