Santa Barbara Chapter of the Autism Society of America, in conjunction with the

M.I.N.D. Institute at UC Health Systems in Sacramento, will be conducting

a series of presentations on Autism to highlight April as National Autism

Awareness Month.

It is our hope that this conference will promote increased collaboration among

researchers, treatment providers, and families. We also hope that this

collaboration can establish systematic communications to provide vital

information to public policy decision makers as they deal with the growing

numbers of Californians diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Rick Rollens, ARCA representative and father of , ASD, will be opening

the conference on April 1 at 2:00 PM followed by Jacquelyn McCandless, MD

(neurologist, psychiatrist and author of " Children with Starving Brains " ) who

will conduct a workshop on Biomedical Interventions for Children with Autism.

Following this, Eddie Tuduri will be performing with some of his drummers and

discussing about drum therapy for children with disabilities. Meghan Finn, a

singer with Syndrome will also be performing. Following these

performances, we will be hosting a reception from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM to provide

a forum for conference participants to meet informally and be joined with

community leaders and media representatives to increase awareness of Autism in

our community.

On Friday, the conference will begin with a keynote address from a series of

speakers including: Dr. Hendren and Dr. Randi Hagerman from the M.I.N.D.

Institute; Dr. Ron Huff from the Department of Developmental Services; Lou

Vismara and Rick Rollens, founders of the M.I.N.D. Institute, and Dr.

Savin, Vice President of Clinical Services for Devereux. Following these

presentations, breakout sessions will provide a variety of topics related to

Autism.

today. Dr. Doreen Granpeesheh, Founder and Clinical Director of the Center for

Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) will discuss the CARD protocol, Attorney

Angelo will lecture on insurance rights for people with ASD and Dr.

Ron Huff , Rick Rollens and members of our local Tri-Counties Regional Center

will discuss autism and it's impact on the California Developmental Disabilities

System, just to name a few. There will be three breakout sessions where these

speakers will be featured.

Resource booths and tables will be setup and will provide information on a

number of organizations and services related to Autism, and be available:
