Guest guest
My sons first trip to the dentist was a couple of months ago, a little over 4.5 years old...I know I'd been putting it off, and finally went because I saw a cavity in the back. Ready for the shocker? (as I tell you all with my tail between my legs..) 12. 12 cavities he had. Yes, I brush his teeth but (USED TO) only twice a day And, yes, there's been times where he crashed and I didn't brush his teeth that night. I should have been bringing him since he was a baby. Especially with all the amoxicillan he had constantly from so many ear infections, and the 3 years of primary reinforcers given sometimes several times a minute all day long...and the lack of talking so saliva and the tongue moving aren't constantly cleaning the teeth....no excuses, just part of me was like, is he kidding? Did we just get ripped off? but when you take it all into consideration, there is no doubt. but, anyway, if you are doing any of this with your child and haven't gone to the dentist, go. and request (If your child is in a center based program, school aged, etc) that tooth brushing be done after break and after lunch (and make sure they are doing it or are making sure your child is doing it) We are lucky to have another chance since these are all baby teeth. 10 of the cavities were just beginning, white fillings were used. But 2 were in the back, (thanks again everyone for the info about fillings) He had to do the stainless steel caps. You can see it a little when he smiles (Mr. D instead of Mr. T :0) And The Dentist also put the sealer on. Also, the staff that day at St. hospital (Port Jeff, NY) were great. I had to bring my 6 year old with me, and they were wonderful with him too. And of course, Dr. Gold the dentist. so don't do what I did. (or did not do I guess you can say) Jennica p.s. Randy Horowitz (from Genesis) has a chapter about going to the dentist, haircutter, etc. in Dr. Bobby Newman's book Words from Those Who Care Time to read it again since we'll be going more often.. the book is at www.difflearn.com
