What is the Town Hall Meeting?

The Town Hall Meeting of the Texas Council on Autism and Pervasive

Developmental Disorders will be held at the Region 17 Education Servicer

Center on Tuesday, April 1, 2008. It will be hosted by the members of the

Texas Council on Autism and Pervasive Developmental Disorders. The Council

members, who serve at the pleasure of the Governor, are committed to

addressing the issues that affect Texans with autism spectrum disorders. The

Town Hall provides the opportunity for any interested person to express

their views candidly about issues related to autism spectrum disorders. This

meeting also provides participants with the opportunity to contribute to the

development of the Texas State Plan on Autism. The Council is dedicated to

increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders, supporting related

programs for increased research and improved treatment & education, and

improving training and support for individuals with autism spectrum

disorders and those who care for them.

What happens at the Town Hall Meeting?

Ø The purpose of the Town Hall is to receive comments from the public.

Council members will be present to hear the testimony. Presenters should not

expect responses to all questions during the Town Hall meeting due to time

constraints and a desire to hear from all present.

Ø The Council will accept both verbal testimony and written testimony at

the Town Hall Meeting. Written testimony can also be provided to the Council

after the meeting by submitting it to the Texas Council on Autism at the

Department of Aging and Disability Services, 701 West 51st Street, W-578,

Austin, TX 78751.

Ø Individuals wishing to provide verbal testimony should fill out one of

the forms provided at the meeting. A maximum period of three minutes will be

allowed for people to provide testimony to the Council.

Ø All those present will be offered an opportunity to speak for three

minutes. After completion of one round of testimony, individuals who wish to

do so will be offered an opportunity to provide an additional three minutes

of testimony.

Ø An audio record will be made of all verbal testimony.
