Thyroid/Cardiac Quandry

I'm in a quandry! My Dr. started me on timed released T3 therapy in May in small doses on the agreeement that, could I tolerate it, then at some point we would add T4 or switch to Armour. It was expected that my T4 levels would drop. I'm now up to 15 micrograms of T3 in the morning and 5 in the evening (any more than that in the p.m. and I can't sleep).

I'm the patient that also has 's and is on full HC replacement. I also was the one that had the thyroid/adrenal crisis 6 years ago and haven't been able until this year to even tolerate any thryoid meds. I've been on HC replacement for over a year.

Here's the problem! I've had cardiac symptoms all this time, 6 years! Major heart palps, high heart rate upon standing. My BP is good, avg. 110/70 now that I'm on Florinef (which is a replacement for aldosterone). I've have disabling fatigue and am pretty much home bound. My Ferritin/Iron is good finally, almost 100 for Ferritin. I've been on sub-lingual B12 for 13 years, CBC tests are good, no other major vitamin/mineral deficiencies. I take potassium to keep levels mid-range.

My Free T4 has fallen, which was expected. In April of this year we ran a baseline test before starting meds and I was @ 1.4 (range .6-1.76). Now on 8/20/08 it's fallen to .9 (same range). My Free T3 continues to be about the same in the morning, measured before meds @ around 2.5.

I feel worse and worse, but she still refuses to add T4 right now because in her mind I'm still "mid-range" on FREE T4 and having heart palps 24 hrs. a day. I told her I strongly disagree. She's not blatantly refusing to add T4 but now she won't add T4 until I've had a cardiac work-up, which I don't disagree that I should have (being 54 years old).

But, how do you TELL if you actually have a cardiac problem or that the problem is being caused by thyroid issues??????

How do FREE T4 levels or FREE T3 affect or don't affect the heart?

I don't want some cardiologist mis-diagnosing me!!

Any thoughts from those who have been through this? Any suggestions for a cardiologist in the Sugar Land/Richmond area that might understand and be competent? As my late grandma Mimi used to say, "I'm so frustrated I could just spit!"
