The purpose of the workshop is to prepare educators to establish a

classroom environment consistent with ABA principles that emphasizes

the teaching of verbal behavior. The target audience for the

workshop includes special education classroom teachers, teaching

assistants, school administrators, psychologists, diagnosticians,

speech pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists

and others.

The participants will view videotape examples from actual classroom

environments. In addition, important information related to

organization of the classroom, group

ABA instructional methods, scheduling of one-to-one intensive

teaching sessions, training of classroom assistants, ordering of

required materials and other school-related topics will be

discussed. (Prior attendance at the Introductory Workshop is

Writing appropriate IEP goals using the ABLLS, and intensive and

natural environment lesson plans, including circle time and group

activities

Setting up the classroom and organizing materials

Collecting data and writing measurable behavioral intervention plans

Review of Skinner's Analysis of Verbal Behavior

This three-day workshop is designed to provide tutors, therapists,

and parents, that serve as their child's primary therapist, with

guided practice in implementing the methods described in Dr.

Carbone's Workshop #1: Introduction to Verbal Behavior. The

participants spend most of their time practicing the methods of

effective instruction demonstrated in video tape illustrations

during the Introductory Workshop. Each participant receives precise

feedback on their teaching methods. The participants are provided

supervised practice in the following areas:

establishing instructional control with an unwilling learner

manipulating establishing operations (E0) during teaching

opportunities to maintain learner attention

scoring the ABLLS and developing instructional objectives

choosing an appropriate response form (sign, vocal, pictures)

teaching the echoic repertoire and transitioning from sign language

to vocal verbal behavior

manipulating EOs to teach early to advanced manding skills

teaching early to advanced receptive, visual performance, motor

imitation, tacting, and intraverbal skills

teaching reciprocal conversation skills in advanced learners, verbal

behavior across all settings, and social skills in early and

advanced learners

organizing your program materials and data recording methods

Prerequisites: All participants are required to attend Dr. Carbone's

Workshop #1: Introduction to Verbal Behavior, and have at least some

experience teaching children with autism within an intensive

teaching program.

Description:To provide intensive training in the application of the

principles of Applied Behavior Analysis and Verbal Behavior with

Children with Autism.

Small groups of 30 people will participate in a 3 day intensive

skill development training series.

The areas of skill development will be: Application of Basic

Principles, Identification and assessment of Early, Intermediate and

Advanced Learners, Teaching the Verbal Operants, Functional

Assessment and Development of Behavior Programs, Data Collection,

Program Book Development, and Staff Training. The 3 day series will

include lectures, hands-on training, observation of clinic staff

working with children, and handouts.

Participants:Groups of 30 people who have completed Level I (See

April Workshops or any prior Carbone #1 Workshop)
