Guest guest
Hello everyone. I'm a single Mom (working full-time) and I have a 5 y/o son with PDD. He has always babbled but at the age of 4.5, he started to talk. It's still not that clear but I understand about 80% of what's he's talking about. He definitely has adhd issues as well. He has been attending a Pre-K for autism(charter school thru school district based on ABA/Discreet Trail therapies) here in south florida where we live, since last august. I am keeping him back this year so he can continue with all his therapies. He is definitely going thru his " terrible two's " . He pushes his limits 24/7. More defiant, more demanding, will throw a tantrum (never threw them in the past), etc. He is more verbal/communicating better, so i don't think it's totally because of speech. He's very impulsive, he listens more now..but it doesn't alway stop him for going after what he wants. (any advice is appreciated) He's so bright. He's taught himself how to read (as many do)but now there are behavioral issues that were NEVEr there before My question is, and I know this is just based on opinion, which states have the best programs for children with autism. I'm on many message boards for florida and kids on the ASD, and everyone says florida is the worst state (actually 49/50) for education, esp. services for special needs children. Unless you can qualify for medicaid, which i don't, services are nill unless u can pay out of pocket, which i can't. The autistic program in the public schools, in my opinion, are missing the boat. My son's teacher, at age 3< didn't even know what ABA therapy was and she was the " autism teacher " . Thank you, Ann jerzyannie@...
