Guest guest
My 7 year old has many many different sensory isuess, that are being approach trough OT, brushing, weighted vest, and a toy on his nech name " seasol " also he has one to one academics half the day and goes to regular the other half ( whenever the aid feels like he can go ) They also have an IEP and had a FAB evaluation. Wich they accomodate a room for him, with a bean bag also wals if meltdowns and other things. I don't want to bad mouth the Aids but they do whatever ia academics alright, Andree has 4rth grade level academics, so our problem is the constant " go home " he hit me, he scream and yield for over 2 hours, he did not want to sit down, he hides under the des, he call me stupid ( whatever he learn that at after 2 purple eyes in the last 2 weeks ,no wonder) All this complaints... specially the one in the afternoon, she has come out with this thing where, every day he writes he did not want to work so he sends all this papers and work work work, that she doesn't want to approach for him, since obviously the do not want to hear him cry , and the tipycal he is sleepy go hom arghhhhh. my husband and I will be going tomorrow to supervised he also had it. We are tired of this, I am not accusing this ladies, but I do not think they are ready for Andree's sensory issues, this are reactions to sensory integration that he has and since they do not send them to the big conferences noone breaks it down in to a way that they can uderstand, what a real " meltdown " I think they believe he is misbehaving and that he hits or " smack literaly the use that word " cause he is being vicious. We are going trough a lot, because he has change so much since they change his teacher , also he has regress, and the matter of that he use to make it to principal's list up until this last quarter, and he barely even sees his teacher, he is being teched by the AIDS only.... Any advice? so that I can make friends and not enemies???? I just want for Andree to be given the opportunity to be understood with this sensory issues, he is not like that at home, so obviously somhow over there he is having this problems, I do not see how since he barely even gets to be out since he is having " this b-e=h-a-v-i-o- r " issues. Guest guest
Has your son had an occupational therapy evaluation done recently (last year)? If not request an ARD in writing to discuss sensory problems affecting behavior. Ask for an occupational therapy evaluation and a new FBA to be conducted by a behavioral specialist. Guest guest
yes we went ahead and talk to our special ed department and she working on Andrees situation and they are being nice enough to word it the right way, I being very upset so I don't know how they took it, but they seem willing to help my son. I hope so, cause I know is not easy to deal with our kids, and it bothers me that is because the lach of information on autism, but I think things are improving and I happy to see the many changes around the area, we still behind but I do see more awareness now that when the my oldest son got diagnosed. I had to find all the info myself then and since then i haven't stop doing as much as I can to help my boy's and whoever may want to hear from my experience. I just hope is only missunderstandings and us not communicating well, cause I like the aids, teachers, and all people around the to like our families and not to create enemies. Of course I did get some advice from our lawyer 1rst cause other wise I would have going and scream at everyone, not even knowing what to say at all. Is good to contact that knows how to handle situations like this one, cause I am not literaly good at expressing myself and that has lead me in to trouble, my worls change completly after the autism diagnoses on the boy's, emotionally Luckly my other 2 boy's are not having this problems, but Andree is a little more severe when it comes to behavior and sensory issues. > My 7 year old has many many different sensory isuess, that are being > approach trough OT, brushing, weighted vest, and a toy on his nech > name " seasol " also he has one to one academics half the day and goes > to regular the other half ( whenever the aid feels like he can go ) > They also have an IEP and had a FAB evaluation. > Wich they accomodate a room for him, with a bean bag also wals if > meltdowns and other things. > I don't want to bad mouth the Aids but they do whatever ia academics > alright, Andree has 4rth grade level academics, so our problem is the > constant " go home " he hit me, he scream and yield for over 2 hours, > he did not want to sit down, he hides under the des, he call me > stupid ( whatever he learn that at after 2 purple eyes in the last 2 > weeks ,no wonder) > All this complaints... specially the one in the afternoon, she has > come out with this thing where, every day he writes he did not want > to work so he sends all this papers and work work work, that she > doesn't want to approach for him, since obviously the do not want to > hear him cry , and the tipycal he is sleepy go hom arghhhhh. > > my husband and I will be going tomorrow to supervised he also had it. > We are tired of this, I am not accusing this ladies, but I do not > think they are ready for Andree's sensory issues, this are reactions > to sensory integration that he has and since they do not send them to > the big conferences noone breaks it down in to a way that they can > uderstand, what a real " meltdown " I think they believe he is > misbehaving and that he hits or " smack literaly the use that word " > cause he is being vicious. > > We are going trough a lot, because he has change so much since they > change his teacher , also he has regress, and the matter of that he > use to make it to principal's list up until this last quarter, and > he barely even sees his teacher, he is being teched by the AIDS > only.... > Any advice? so that I can make friends and not enemies???? > I just want for Andree to be given the opportunity to be understood > with this sensory issues, he is not like that at home, so obviously > somhow over there he is having this problems, I do not see how since > he barely even gets to be out since he is having " this b-e=h-a-v-i- o- > r " issues. > > > > > > > --------------------------------- > You rock.
