Guest guest
For whatever it is worth, the nutrient GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter. Mine level must have been non existant (I am hypo and have other auto immune). Taking 2000 to 3000 mg GABA and/or 150 mg of L Theanine (amino acid) at bedtime helps stop all the mental chatter going on and allows good sleep. Using the calming thoughts and no "heavy" info prior to bedtime like the news, newspaper, intense reading etc also helps me. I personally still take licorice in the form of licorice tea during the day when I know I will have extra stress or need to function beyond my "usual". The tea seems to be much more time specific and faster support than the capsules. You can make tea from the capsules or buy tea bags. I had more trouble sleeping when I took the capsules, but not with the tea. It is very sweet and although it does keep your body from breaking down the cortisol, I only use it when I am under more stress and just make sure I don't drink it in the latter part of the day. Since I still have hydrocortisone replacement issues at times, I feel it is a safer alternative. I have trouble scanning information. Could someone direct me to the specific archived dates you mentioned about licorice AND tell me specifically how to access those archives....some of us (meaning myself) are not familiar with the process. Thanks, a__________________________________________________
Guest guest
Thanks for the info, a. To search the archives go to the yahoo group home page and click ‘messages’ on the left hand side. You’ll see the messages listed so you can read them. There will also be a box above the messages where you can search by message number or a word. Enter the word or words you’d like to research and click ‘search’. Be sure to use the box to search within the group messages and NOT the search box in the upper right corner. That one will search all yahoo groups for a new group, not within the group’s messages. Hope that helps! Here is a link to a search of the archives for licorice: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Texas_Thyroid_Groups/msearch?query=licorice & pos=20 & cnt=10 If it breaks, here is a tinyurl: http://tinyurl.com/6ckghe Grace From: Texas_Thyroid_Groups [mailto:Texas_Thyroid_Groups ] On Behalf Of a s Sent: Sunday, October 19, 2008 3:48 AM To: Texas_Thyroid_Groups Subject: Falling Asleep - Gaba - L Theanine - Licorice Tea For whatever it is worth, the nutrient GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter. Guest guest
Also - if you click on the blue link " Advanced " you can enter a word or phrase in the subject area or the body of the message area for which to search. I find this the easier way to get exactly what I want in the archives.
