Guest guest Posted September 30, 2004 Report Share Posted September 30, 2004 BEYOND THE BASICS: IMPLEMENTING VERBAL BEHAVIOR IN THE CLASSROOM A Two-day Workshop Conducted by: is Higgins, MA & Payer, BA October 21 & 22, 2004 - 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Carbon Lehigh I.U. 21, Main Office, Schnecksville, PA This two-day workshop was designed to provide instructional leaders with the tools to create educational programs consistent with ABA principles that emphasize the teaching of Skinner's Analysis of Verbal Behavior. Video taped examples of classrooms, demonstrations of procedures, as well as, hands-on practice and specific feedback will assist in the mastery of the topics to be covered. Participants will learn to (1) score the ABLLS; (2) expand natural environment teaching; (3) use automatic reinforcement procedures to increase vocalizations in non-vocal children; (4) utilize strategies for reducing problem behavior; and (5) develop and implement intensive programs of instruction including receptive, visual performance, motor imitation, tacting, and intraverbal skills. Class size is limited to insure that each participant receives sufficient time and feedback. * Prior attendance at Dr. Sundberg, Dr. Partington or Dr. Carbone's Workshop: Introduction to Verbal Behavior is required. Additionally, to ensure maximum benefit to all participants it is strongly suggested that you have attended other workshops focused on the principles of ABA and have experience working intensively with children with autism. is Higgins is a Board Certified Associate Behavior Analyst (BCaBA) that received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Rutgers University and is a certified Teacher of the Handicapped in the state of New Jersey. She is currently the director of Progressive Therapy, which provides consultations to school districts and home programs, supervision and training of staff, and development and implementation of individualized programs for children with disabilities. Ms. Higgins is also the founder of a non- profit agency, Living Equally Among Peers (LEAP), which is dedicated to training professionals, developing educational curricula, and providing public school programs for children with disabilities. In addition, Ms Higgins is a lead developer of the Verbal Behavior Network web site and was the project coordinator for the VBN's eight-part professional development Workshop series, designed to promote training among teachers, therapists, and parents.. Payer has a Bachelors degree in Special Education and is a Board Certified Associate Behavior Analyst. In addition, she has participated in more than 250 hours of comprehensive professional development through the Verbal Behavior Network. Ms. Payer has taught students with autism in a public school, been an ABA home therapist/coordinator, and a behavior consultant. Currently she holds the title of Coordinator of Autism Services in a public school district where she oversees students with autism ages preschool through high school. She is also responsible for training paraprofessionals, teachers, and administrators on best practice procedures for working with children with autism and other developmental disabilities.
