Dear all,

We have entered the 5th month of our fight with the school district here in

california..

Our son is currently going to a reputed private school offering VB based

training methodology and we are funding it privately. In our process to get

the school district fund his VB program, we shared with the school district

the functional assessment plan written by the private school along with the

detailed IEP goals. However school district cheated by copying his

functional assessment report along with the detailed IEP and are claiming

that they offer similar VB services in the school.

As far as we know the school district has nothing to offer except for poorly

instructed classrooms with teachers who are only high school pass and

receives no formal training except for two days of training by a

'specialist' who is herself only a mere graduate with no special

qualifications or degrees. In our recent IEP ( which we refused to sign),

the school copied the terms like mand, tact etc and claimed they have

similar program.

This is a big difference from the school my son is currently going where

every instructor is atleast a BCBA or masters in child psychology or a PHD.

My son has shown rapid progress in two months. School district is adamant

that they will not fund his program and wants us to use their services. The

only thing we agreed in the IEP was to evaluate the school offered program.

So, kindly advise us what question should we ask when we go and see their

program. We would need some specific VB based questions so that we can judge

if they have any adequate knowledge or not. Since they are refusing to let

us observe any child for privacy reasons, most likely they would want us to

read their notes and recorded observations.

Dear experienced members of the DTT-Net,we need all of your support here to

put up a good set of questions so that we could guage their experitise.

School district even went to the extend saying that my son has no 'hope' and

the IEP goals set by his current school are too aggressive to be met. I am

not surprised by their judgment since these so called experts of the school

district .who read the goals and functional assessment , were not even able

to understand half of the methodologies used and could not even interpret

the data.

Kindly advise. We might be called for observation on monday or tuesday.

as usual thankyou all of you in advance for your judgment, support and

sincere advises. Battle of life is going on..

regards

sunil
