POAC FREE TRAINING SERIES-(Fall/Winter)

Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit # 21 is pleased to announce the POAC

Free Training Series. As part of a continuing commitment to programs

serving students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, CLIU #21 has

developed a collaborative partnership with Parents of Autistic

Children (POAC). POAC is a non-profit group of parents of children

with autism interested in training teachers, in evidence based

" best practices, " with the goal of helping people with autism

live full and independent lives. The POAC organization has been

assisting the CLIU for the past school year through staff training

and consultation on Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Verbal

Behavior (VB). POAC has agreed to expand support by helping CLIU

provide FREE scientifically-based training to parents, teachers, and

related personnel that provide direct services to children with

autism and other developmental disabilities.

All workshops will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the CLIU Main Office at:

4750 Orchard Rd.

Schnecksville, PA 18078

Teaching Verbal Behavior in the Classroom: An Overview

9/28/04 6:30 CLIU 21

Using the analysis of language as a behavior that is under the

influence of the principles of operant conditioning provides a

viable model for helping children with language deficits. Research

has demonstrated that the application of these principles leads to

the development of functional communication skills, reduction in

problem behavior and an increase in social initiations.
