Guest guest
" Alcoholics " have a problem with ethanol, not with alcohol (alcohol in the chemical sense simply means a compound with one or more hydroxyl molecules bonded to carbon molecules). Cetyl alcohol, as well as other common alcohols, such as glycerin (glycerol), are not a physiological risk to an " alcoholic " , nor should they be a psychological risk if the customer is informed. Medications such as those Kat is referring to (i.e. Antabuse, Flagyl) react with ethanol, not other alcohols such as glycerin or cetyl alcohol. From what I've heard, many 12 step programs do make a concerted effort to inform their members, but obviously, not all of them do! Guest guest
>I see Cetyl Alcohol on lots of lotion bottles. > >I use EWax NF and Stearic Acid in my lotions and creams. >I may try some of the conditioning emulsifiers if someone gives me a good reason to. > >Why would I choose or not choose to use Cetly Alcohol. If you are using Emulsifying Wax NF, you are already using Cetyl Alcohol in your formulas. By definition, Emulsifying Wax NF " is a waxy solid prepared from Cetostearyl Alcohol containing a polyoxyethylene derivative of a fatty acid ester of sorbitan " . And Cetostearyl Alcohol is " not less than 40.0 percent of stearyl alcohol (C18H38O), and the sum of the stearyl alcohol content and the cetyl alcohol (C16H34O) content is not less than 90.0 percent " . >My lotions are not complex. Some moisturizing shea butter and a few light weight oils. Am I missing something? I think simplicity is a worthy goal in most aspects of life. I think we should strive to make our lives effective and efficient. And I don't see why that goal should not apply to our formulas also. The proverbial K.I.S.S. principle, personified.
