Guest guest
The North Texas Autism Education Center (also dba Lone Star Learning Center) is a non-profit organization founded by parents and professionals to educate children with autism, their families and the professionals dedicated to helping children with autism reach their highest potential. Our most recent Community Outreach workshop " Effective Educational Planning using The Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills (The ABLLS) " was held on Saturday, April 3, in Plano. Gail Wayman, M.Ed., BCABA, conducted the half-day workshop, which was one requested most by our past professional attendees. Registration was limited to 30 professionals to allow for a highly-interactive format with hands-on training. These professionals included classroom Teachers, Paraprofessionals, and Speech-Language Pathologists from local school districts as well as those as far away as Wichita Falls, and Oklahoma. We also had attendees from local ECI offices as well as the Autism Treatment Center. These 30 professionals serve over 170 children with autism. Thanks to the generous donations towards last year's golf marathon fundraiser, we were able to offer this workshop at no charge and to allow attendees to purchase the ABLLS sets at a 20% discount. We plan to repeat this workshop again and open it up to parents as well. We are receiving lots of great input from the community to guide our future workshop topics. We have also received several requests to conduct workshops on site at local clinics and schools as well as other areas of Texas. It is so exciting to see so many professionals dedicated to learning more about teaching children with autism!
