My son's teaching Methodology is ABA. It has been acknowledged by

the school district that this is indeed what he has.

1. I know they want to change this, they have at every IEP meeting

for the last 3 years. (Can someone point me in the right direction

to look at legally for info on this?)

2. At IEP on March 3rd two things are on the IEP Addendum.

Teacher training

IEP says " parents requested Staff Training(Principle explained that

the First Grade teacher has had experience with students in her room

with Autism, is a certified Special Education teacher and will be

attending a workshop addressing Autism Spectrum Disorders. Parents

are satisfied with this. "

I got a note from the principle that this never happened and that

they don't feel any further training is necessary. Even though this

teacher knows nothing about ABA teaching methodology. That's my

child's proven effective teaching methodology, don't you think she

should at least know the BASICS??? I mean, she had a child with

autism in her class 5 YEARS AGO!!!

Another separate issue,

They sent me an email today telling me that the principle canceled

the Special Ed teacher and my son's aide going to the workshop with

me called " Elimination of Problem Behaviors through excellent

teaching procedures " . This one wasn't written in on the IEP

addendum, they agreed to this after the meeting. Now the Principle

just decided that it was IEP time and he just can't let the Special

Ed Teacher or my aide go because of bad timing. What? If they

agreed to it, is it legal for them to cancel now?

3. We met on Monday to come up with draft copies of IEP Goals. I

have requested a copy and they are giving me the run around now

saying someone left them at home etc...... What's up with that?

Thanks for your help anyone!!

Angie and group,

If the workshop attendance is specified in the IEP, it is mandatory. Some

times SDs pick a somewhat minor item for noncompliance to see whether the

student's parents will let the matter drop rather than file a complaint. I

would file a compliant with whatever agency your SD is more responsive to. If

you don't know start with your state dept. of education or ask parents who have

been successful advocates in your school district.
