Angel, Isaac went through speech therapy for stuttering in 4th grade. It had absolutely no effect. However, Isaac's case may be different than yours. Isaac has Tourettes, and we observed during that year that he seemed to be ticcing between words and syllables. He " stuttered " more when he had more tics in general, and less when he went through times of fewer tics. So, this may not help you, but it is our experience. in Massachusetts

It only seemed to pop up when she was under a lot of stress but eventually, that happened a lot. She has had ST at school, once per week, for 2 years and seems to have a handle on it now. Guest guest
Hi Pat, Don't be so sure yet that you will suffer some kind of pain for the rest of your life. Perhaps you may indeed have pain and maybe it will not be so bad that you can't work. Then on the other hand there is a chance you will not have this pain again. All I am really trying to say is that being worried about weather you will end up like some of us on this list. It just causes stress, and generally when you worry and stress your pain levels are bound to climb. Try to relax as much as possible. I hope you make it back to work as you wish and that there is no pain, or that it is little and tolerable. Guest guest
Hi Pat I too had a relapse after my back surgery. Within a couple of weeks my left leg started hurting again and continued to get worse with time. Unfortunately it seems like 50% of back surgeries do not work and most people seem to end up having more than one before they are finally pain free or at least at a place that they can tolerate the pain and live with it. I know its tough and I am sorry to hear you are not doing as well as I am sure you hoped you would be. Maybe with time it will get better there is always that hope I know for a samll percetage of people they do get better without another surgery. I think for most of us its adapting our lives to learn to live with the pain we have and finding ways to deal with it and go on living. I myself had a very active life until 5 yrs ago and now I am lucky if I can go shopping once in awhile. I know its a totally different life than I would have imagined 5 yrs ago when I was showing and raising horses and doing anything I felt like. Good luck with your shots I hope they help and that with rest and time you get better. Just take it one day at a time and hopefully things will improve for you. I may not have the life I want but at least I can leave my house. Thats more than I can say of a 1 1/2 ago, when NOTHING controlled the pain and 4 walls were all I had NOT FUN at ALL !! best wishes to you for better days. Guest guest
Hi, I am so glad that Lexi did well with her DOC band but so sorry to hear about her hip. Almost a month ago, we took to a pediatric orthopedic surgeon to have her hip checked because she has an extra fold in the thigh on her non-tort side. The dr felt her hips were normal but from what I understand, babies with torticollis have a higher chance for also having hip dysplasia. The same cramped uterine quarters can lead to both. Was Lexi breech? The highest incidence falls in firstborn, female breech births. Have you been to www.hip-baby.org? That site is very informative and the hipbaby board is very active and there are some great parents there who can help prepare you as to what to expect for Lexi's surgery and spica cast. You and Lexi will be in my thoughts! Lori mom to A. Guest guest
Thanks Lori! Lexi had a double whammy cause its congenital (I had it as a baby) along with the cramped uterine quarters! I am already a member of the hip-baby group (I joined after I posted this). In my heart I knew there was a problem and seeing the xray just confirmed it. > Lexi has been out of her doc band for 4 weeks now and her head looks > wonderful, but I have a question. > > Have any of the babies that have torticollis also develop hip > dysplasia? Guest guest
Unfortunately many babies with torticollis are at risk for hip dysplasia. I have a friend whose daughter went through the surgery and casting and although you always worry with any surgery, the baby did very well and is now doing fine with everything. I think the cast was the hardest part of the whole thing. I bet if you post on the tort board, other moms who have been through it can share thier experience. HUGS TO LEXI, poor baby.
