Guest guest
" He knows how to hold it because he never goes poop at school or out in public. " Penny, Bobby Newman had told me early on " don't reinforce for 'dry pants' that only teaches the child how to hold it in " Sounds like that has happened quite often???? Not about failing, about the way it was taught.. I may get some people who don't agree with me, or think its cruel, but I did use positive punishment with my son. When pooped his pants, I made him clean it up (hand over hand rinsing the underwear in the toilet) and I'd but him in the bathtub and use the hand held shower to clean him. He doesn't like the hand held shower (which is so odd to me, because he LOVES water, sprinkers, and will take a regular shower with me) He'd cry, and be upset, shouting " done " . He actually had an accident last week, first time since last Sept. I still followed through with the shower routine. good luck, Jennica O.T. potty training older kids I was reading a little of the potty training discussion and I am embarrassed to say that Kenzie will be eight in July and still never goes poop in the toilet. Pee is fine but not poop. I started trying to train him before he was four. I've read the books. I've done numerous potty training parties. The kind where you live in the bathroom for three days. I would take in a chair for me, blankets for him, TV, lot's of movies, treats and toys. I've tried suppositories. I've tried schedule training by recording the time he goes. I've stuck on him like glue. He's so sneaky. I can literally see him standing with just his underwear on and he still manages to do it without my knowing. I've done PECS above the toilet with a picture of him sitting on it, poop in the toilet and a reinforcer picture. I even went out and bought lots of new videos and wrapped them up. I had him sit on the toilet and make grunting sounds. I reinforced the grunting sound with a wrapped video just one time so he would get the idea of the reinforcer he is getting. I've showed him me pooping. I've done many potty training videos. He still has more soft, somewhat mushy poops than ever formed ones. I was hoping SCD would be the magic bullet for potty training if nothing else. Nothing has worked with him. I read these people who are trying to potty train at four and I'm amazed. He knows how to hold it because he never goes poop at school or out in public. Soooo, if any of you have had a kid like this and who is older and have had success I would love to hear from you. I'm at my wits end with this and now, unfortunately, we're going into our season here at our lodge and I'll be really busy. My goal was to have him trained by this summer. I guess I've failed that miserably. Thanks for reading this saga and for any suggestions you may have. Penny Kenzie ASD 7 y.o.
