I went back and read over my original email. I would like to explain

something I said in better detail below. For those of you who may not be

accustomed to the south, things are pretty laid back where I live. Anyone

that lives out of the state of Mississippi can be considered aggressive! I

am in the military, and not originally from this area so I appreciate all

diversity! It’s all about helping my kid!

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

Take care,

Kim

Disruptive noises during class

Hello everyone.

I am looking for some sound advice. My little boy is 5 yrs old and is in

Kindergarten. He makes inappropriate noises at the work center tables. He

usually completes his tasks, but he makes many inappropriate noises and

scripts during the process. Please give me some recommendations on how to

keep these inappropriate vocalizations to a minimum. I have a hard time

understanding how I can direct the people working with him to keep learning

fun while re-directing/punishing unwanted behaviors.

He does have an aid. You should also know that we are currently living in

Mississippi and my little boy is the first autistic child to have an aid in

this school (I know we are behind). Very new experience for this school

because they are not familiar with ABA/AVB at all. The clinic I had hired

to help with ABA programming in the school left a bad impression. The

school is receptive to what I have to say dealing with verbal behavior, but

they no longer wish to speak with my son’s consultant because they did not

like his aggressive nature. He is originally from Pennsylvania! I am doing

my best to help the school. But, I sure could use some answers! Don’t be

surprised to hear more from me in the future.

My son is verbal but needs constant prompting. He is excelling in every

academic area but expressive language. His receptive language skills are

average.

Thanks in advance,

Kim from Mississippi
